We are currently seeking a Vehicle Engineer with expertise in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and automated vehicles (AVs) for our Vehicle Engineering Practice in our Natick, MA office. The candidate should have a fundamental interest in the automotive field, general understanding of ADAS or AV technology, and excellent communication skills. In this role, you will work as part of a team responsible for the analysis of transportation accidents, mechanical failures, and performance of ADAS technology. Your technical background and hands-on experience will provide Exponent’s clients with answers to their technical problems, while empowering the development of your consulting practice and professional experience. 


  • Performing technical analyses of accidents involving roadway users, including cars, commercial vehicles, public transportation, two-wheeled vehicles, and pedestrians 
  • Applying understanding of ADAS technology to transportation accidents 
  • Supporting consulting projects that involve analysis and testing of ADAS; analysis and safety assessments of AVs; and accident reconstruction 
  • Leveraging vehicle- and component-level testing at Exponent’s world-class test facilities to refine or demonstrate your technical analyses 
  • Pursuing cutting-edge research to address pressing technical issues facing vehicle transportation, accident analysis, and ADAS performance and evaluation 
  • Conducting firsthand field investigations of accident vehicles and locations 
  • Learning and using state-of-the-art tools and techniques to perform accident reconstruction, including but not limited to: 3D laser scanners, drones, photogrammetry, vehicle dynamics simulation 
  • Communicating the results of your technical analyses and testing in the form of technical reports, presentations, and testimony to diverse audiences, technical and otherwise 
  • Managing projects from initiation to completion and ensuring that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work product 

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field 
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required 
  • Knowledge of automotive systems and hands-on automotive experience (e.g. Baja SAE, Formula SAE, EcoCar, Automotive Mechanic roles, coursework and/or shop experience) 
  • Knowledge of dynamics, mechanical design, and strong analytical/problem solving skills 
  • Research and/or industry experience in ADAS, AVs, and/or automotive testing 
  • Field and/or lab measurement experience 
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to synthesize technical information and present it to specialists and non-specialists alike 
  • P.E. license or willingness to obtain a P.E. license 
  • Clear written communication and technical writing skills 
  • Proven dedication to quality and accuracy 
  • Versatile, team-oriented, and willing to work overtime and travel for project work and/or conferences when required 
  • Technical computer skills (including 3D CAD and/or technical programming) 
  • Ambitious with a desire to develop professional skills, attend conferences, and remain at the forefront of technical field

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.


USD $130,500.00 - USD $156,000.00 /Yr.
