Job description

Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded General Contractor throughout the Southeast, is seeking qualified candidates for the position ofย VDC Engineer. We are currently seeking someone who is willing to work in Sanford, FL.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The VDCย Engineer is responsible for theย planning, visualization, and computer modeling of construction projects.ย Producing detailed construction and design plans forย Superintendentsย andย Engineers from other disciplines to follow.ย 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mid-level of understanding of Water and/or Commercial construction demands.ย 
  • Can work effectively & efficiently with minimal direction from Senior level.
  • Communicates with Subcontractors andย teamsย on projects.ย 
  • Take leadership for select project tasks and/ or components.ย 
  • Perform project model setup and management throughout the project lifecycle.ย 
  • Conduct 3D trade coordination meetings and support management of trade contractor drafters.ย 
  • Advance innovation on complex projects.ย 
  • Support reality capture services (LiDAR, SLAM, Drone).ย 
  • Lead QA/QC and manage BIM in various platforms.ย 
  • Utilize BIM to generate drawings and details following specified standards.ย 
  • Implement project-specific BIM standards, developing or augmenting standards where necessary.ย 
  • Troubleshoot software, processes, and technical issues.ย 
  • Complete project deliverables on time and within budget.ย 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; OR Minimum of two years of college credits with four years of work experience in VDC, Engineering, Architecture, or Design.
  • 0โ€“2 years of relevant experience; internship experience in a related field preferred.
  • Experience with or knowledge of the Autodesk AEC Suite, including:
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit
    • Navisworks
    • Plant3D
    • Civil3D
    • Recap
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Forma, DroneDeploy, and Procore.
  • Basic understanding of design/construction documents and building systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior-level team members, provide updates on project status or issues, and coordinate resource needs with the VDC team.
  • Ability to work in both a professional office environment and occasionally on active project job sites.
  • Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Full-time availability, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. โ€“ 5:00 p.m.
