Job description

As a Communications Strategist at Vanguard, you will join a highly respected Corporate Communications team that serves as trusted advisors to senior leaders across the enterprise. In this role, you will support communications for our Investment Management Group (IMG)-the team responsible for the development, oversight, and management of Vanguard funds.
This role is aligned to advancing IMG's communications priorities, including how Vanguard communicates its investment philosophy, market perspectives, portfolio strategies, and product innovation to key audiences.
You will develop and execute integrated communications strategies, serve as a trusted advisor and spokesperson on investment-related topics, and translate complex priorities into clear, compelling messaging. As a mid-level strategist, you will independently lead workstreams while partnering closely with senior leaders and mentoring more junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies aligned to IMG priorities, including market insights, investment capabilities, and product narratives.
  • Translate investment strategies, market developments, and portfolio perspectives into clear, compelling messaging for internal and external audiences.
  • Serve as a communications advisor to business partners, offering actionable recommendations and helping shape messaging and approach for key initiatives.
  • Act as a spokesperson on investment- and markets-related topics, proactively identifying media opportunities while managing risk and protecting Vanguard's reputation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with financial journalists, industry influencers, and business partners to shape narratives and secure impactful coverage.
  • Lead the development of communications materials, including press releases, executive briefing materials, and thought leadership content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with Vanguard's voice.
  • Manage communications projects independently from strategy through execution and measurement, ensuring alignment with goals, timelines, and KPIs.
  • Apply data and insights to inform communications decisions, assess performance, and optimize strategies in partnership with analytics teams.
  • Monitor industry, market, and competitor activity to identify risks and opportunities and elevate insights to senior team members.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, providing guidance on content development, execution, and professional growth.
  • Collaborate across Corporate Communications, Marketing, and business teams to ensure coordinated, enterprise-aligned communications.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required; degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Finance, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum five years' related work experience, including experience in financial communications, media relations, or asset management.
  • Experience serving as a spokesperson and managing media inquiries strongly preferred.
  • Preferred Skills and Capabilities
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial and investment topics clearly and effectively.
  • Experience advising stakeholders and contributing to communications strategy in fast-paced, high-visibility environments.
  • Sound judgment and ability to balance risk, reputation, and business priorities-particularly in sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with financial and markets media.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Experience using data and insights to evaluate communications effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to mentor others and contribute to team development.
