WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE
Structured field experience within a high accountability medical transport system.
Scheduled medical appointments
Dialysis transports
Long term care facility transports
Hospital discharges
Interfacility medical visits
Every shift strengthens communication skills, situational awareness, documentation habits, and operational discipline while working directly with dispatch and healthcare facilities.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Respond to scheduled transportation assignments from dispatch
Safely transport clients using a wheelchair accessible vehicle
Maintain continuous radio communication with dispatch while in service
Operate the van in accordance with departmental policy and all traffic laws, prioritizing client and operator safety
Secure wheelchairs using proper straps and positioning procedures
Safely operate the wheelchair lift
Maintain assigned van and equipment in clean, safe, and working order, including wheelchair, radio, and oxygen tank with regulator
Complete comprehensive documentation of daily duties and transports
Observe proper radio procedures
Report immediately any accidents, injuries, complaints, or operational issues to the appropriate supervisor
Report to work on time, in proper uniform, with required identification and assigned equipment
Support the mission, goals, and policies of A-MED Ambulance
At no time is the Van Operator responsible for physically lifting or transferring a client into or out of a wheelchair. The role is limited to positioning and securing the wheelchair for safe transport.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Current Jefferson Parish Van Attendant Permit
Current Orleans CPNC Permit
Valid Louisiana Operator's License, Class D
Meet vehicle insurance carrier requirements
Current Defensive Driving certification
Current Heart Saver CPR with First Aid certification
Strong communication skills
Reliable attendance and strict punctuality
All permits and certifications must remain current and valid while employed in this role.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to properly secure clients in wheelchairs using approved straps
Ability to safely operate wheelchair lift equipment
Manual dexterity to handle equipment and documentation
Ability to communicate effectively via radio and in person
Visual ability sufficient for safe vehicle operation and client observation
This position does not include lifting or transferring clients into or out of wheelchairs.
