Van Driver

P/T = Friday, Saturday and Sunday - 24 hours p/week

Four Major Holidays Required: 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day.


Each Visitor Center has a Van Driver who is responsible for assisting clients with local travel in order to visit incarcerated friends and family at the institution. The Van Driver plans, provides information and drives a passenger van in the local area and on institution grounds. He/she reports to the Visitor Center Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High school diploma or GED.
  • CA Non-Commercial Class C Driver's License with a valid Commercial Medical Certificate
  • California Department of Motor Vehicles Class A or B license, with passenger endorsement. A Motor Vehicles Class C license is required to transport passengers in a vehicle that is designed to carry less than 13 passengers.
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation


DUTIES:


  • Coordinate, maintain and provide routine schedule for bus, train and airport.
  • Coordinate routes to and in the local community, transporting visitors' from the institution.
  • Coordinate with the institution Visiting Staff and the Program Director a plan for transportation of visitors from the Visitor Center to the institution visiting area and back again, where appropriate to do so.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance of vehicle with institution or authorized service providers.
  • Provide information and resources regarding local and long distance transportation to and from the institution.
  • See that regular vehicle safety inspections and transportation logs are complete.
  • Provide temporary on-site supervision of children, in cases of extraordinary need and under direction.
  • Coordinate special transportation arrangements for visitors with special needs.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled trainings, as required.
  • Participate with other Visitor Center employees to maintain a clean, sheltered, safe, and appropriate work environment.
  • Participate in mandatory training as required for the position, including institution and off-site training that may occur outside of regularly scheduled work days.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Maintain physical fitness sufficient to:

  • Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Use hands to handle and/or feel objects, tools and controls.
  • Stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Talk and hear.
  • Move quickly/run in case of emergency.
  • Vision ability to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision,

depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.




OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills, and a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Obtain and maintain a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation security clearance.
  • Physical capacity to operate a passenger van safely during inclement weather and when there is limited visibility
  • Treat colleagues, clients and other employees with respect and dignity.
  • Perform all tasks in a manner consistent with Friends Outside policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as instructed by the Program Director.
