Overview
ABOUT US:
Founded in 1993, Bayview Asset Management is an investment management firm focused on investments in mortgage and consumer credit, including whole loans, asset-backed securities, mortgage servicing rights, and other credit-related assets.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Associate, Valuations will provide internal evaluations to support internal decision-making processes for various commercial real estate and lending related business lines. This will include communication with internal management, internal clients, third-party vendors as well as various other market participants like real estate brokers, property managers, and leasing agents. A thorough understanding of real estate valuation concepts and techniques, loan underwriting skills, strong research and analytical skills, and good communication skills are necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform internal evaluations on various types of commercial real estate of all sizes, but mainly on assets greater than $10MM. Assets are mainly domestic real estate, but some components are international.
  • Formulate and present a well-researched opinion of value on real estate collateral and opine on loan and asset risks.
  • Conduct market research by contacting and having verbal discussions with real estate brokers, property managers, and leasing agents.
  • Prepare internal evaluations on CMBS assets and present opinion to credit committee for discussion. Most evaluations need to be completed in compressed time periods ranging from two to four hours.
  • Conduct periodic loan surveillance on assets held in our portfolio; evaluate loan and asset risks and report to management.
  • Evaluate appraisals for accuracy, reasonableness, compliance with our policies and procedures and underwriting guidelines. Collect feedback from our Underwriting team about appraisal and communicate with third-party appraisers to resolve deficiencies and maintain an audit trail of communication and revisions.
  • Rate performance of vendors to support recommendation for continuation of use on the approved appraiser and broker panel.
  • Perform internal evaluations on some residential 1-4 property types both domestic and international.
  • Conduct property site inspections, as needed.
  • Remain current on applicable appraisal regulations, guidelines, and industry standards.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Seven (7) years of current experience in commercial real estate appraisal.
  • MAI or advanced candidate preferred.

SKILLS:
  • Solid skill set in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel & Word, required.
  • Thorough understanding with Discounted Cash Flow models.
  • Strong understanding of USPAP and Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective report writing and other written communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, prioritize tasks, and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to different situations and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly, and confidently, based upon analysis.

Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registration
  • Certified General Appraisal License required.

LOCATION and COMPENSATION:
  • This role can be based in either Bayview's Coral Gables, FL, or New York, NY office or remote-based.
  • This role can be 100% in office, Hybrid (Tuesday - Thursday) or 100% remote.
  • Base compensation is expected to be $110,000-$150,000 with the opportunity for bonus compensation.
