GRADUATE ASSISTANT: ESPORTS
OVERVIEW:
DeSales University, in Center Valley, PA, is a private, coeducational, four-year liberal arts Salesian, Catholic university, under the leadership of the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales. Founded in 1965, the 550-acre suburban campus is located 50 miles north of Philadelphia and about 90 miles southwest of New York City. A total enrollment of nearly 3,500 includes undergraduate day and evening students, and graduate students. DeSales has approximately 135 full-time faculty members and offers more than 40 bachelor's degrees, twelve graduate programs, and over 20 certificate programs in a wide range of disciplines; many of these can be completed fully online.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Graduate Assistant for Varsity Esports will manage the Esports students during competitive seasons. They will be expected to recruit prospective students, execute practice sessions in our arena, maintain the rules of the arena, manage and supervise competitive schedules, and support the players in academic success. The GA’s primary goal is to guide and contribute to the student athlete’s performance as an esports competitor and as a positive contributor to the DeSales University campus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA/BS required, Masters preferred; equivalent combination of education and/or work experience will be considered
  • Acceptance to, and continued enrollment in a DeSales University graduate program required
  • Available to be on site for minimum 20 hours a week (evening hours) for practices and competitions at our campus at our Center Valley, PA location (not open for remote work)
  • Experience coaching or in team management, especially with college-aged students
  • Preference to applicants who have competitive experience in esports titles, especially League of Legends, VALORANT, and/or Overwatch
  • Ability to respond and manage our Discord server
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with the Program Director
  • Ability to manage schedules, budgets, and software/hardware
  • Ability to develop and assess team strategies in order to lead a team of players to success in competition and in academic pursuit
  • Ability to provide general maintenance and management to the gaming computer lab
  • Understanding of ethical behavior and dedication to the sportsmanship of the team
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, bend to access cables and wires under a desk
  • Ability to travel to competitions (sometimes overnight and often during the weekend/evening) up to 2 times within an academic year
  • Drivers License with clean driving record
  • Dedicated to the mission of a small, Catholic, liberal arts institution
