Position Summary
Valley Iron is looking for an experienced Assistant Night Crew Supervisor to help lead our night warehouse operations. This hands-on leadership role supports the Night Crew Supervisor by coordinating workflow, assisting with truck routing, supporting drivers and the sales team, and ensuring orders are accurately prepared and loaded for next-day deliveries.
The ideal candidate is organized, self-motivated, knowledgeable in steel distribution, and thrives in a fast-paced warehouse environment. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a safe and efficient operation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage nightly workflow by assigning and adjusting work based on operational needs.
  • Assist with truck routing and make route changes based on customer location, material type, load weight, and delivery stops.
  • Answer calls and assist the sales team with customer needs and order support.
  • Support drivers returning from deliveries by resolving incomplete deliveries and addressing concerns.
  • Assist the Dispatcher after office hours by printing orders for the next shipping day that have not been assigned to a load.
  • Help finalize delivery routes to maximize efficiency.
  • Load trucks, verify load accuracy, and inspect completed loads.
  • Identify and organize material remaining on warehouse racks after loading.
  • Serve as acting Night Crew Supervisor during absences.
  • Promote a safe, organized, and productive warehouse environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of steel distribution experience (Valley Iron experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metal products.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliable attendance and dependability.
  • Moderate computer proficiency.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements
This position regularly requires the ability to:
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
