Job description

Position Summary

The Account Manager, VA Accounts is responsible for the day-to-day relationship, quote, pipeline, follow-up, and account-health management of assigned Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers and related VA stakeholders. The role serves as WSC's primary Sales point of contact for assigned accounts, works through approved WSC processes and Salesforce, and partners with Customer Care, Operations, Installation, Finance, Compliance, Government Business Development, Marketing, and Sales Operations / Business Intelligence to improve responsiveness, quote conversion, customer trust, and growth within WSC's VA business.

This role is accountable for territory ownership and account performance. It is not an operations manager role, contract-authority role, or proposal-management role. The Account Manager coordinates, escalates, documents, and follows through, while respecting WSC's operational, contractual, procurement, pricing, and compliance boundaries.

Employees transitioning into this role from Government Contracting Sales Representative, Inside Sales Representative, Sales Executive, or Sales Specialist Estimator positions are expected to retain useful product, quoting, estimating, and account knowledge while adopting a broader proactive account-ownership model.

Role Purpose

Create clear, accountable ownership for assigned VA medical center relationships and growth opportunities.

Move WSC from reactive quote handling to proactive account management, disciplined follow-up, and measurable sales performance.

Improve VA account trust through responsiveness, product knowledge, Salesforce discipline, and reliable internal coordination.

Increase visibility into account health, pipeline, quote aging, approval movement, PO conversion, service concerns, and growth opportunities.

Support WSC's mission by helping VA stakeholders and Veterans receive timely, compliant, and high-quality equipment and service support.

Assigned VA Territory and Account Ownership

Own assigned VA accounts by geography, including designated VAMCs, VISNs, catchment areas, product lines, and account tiers.

Build and maintain account plans for assigned VA locations, including key contacts, stakeholder map, active opportunities, recurring pain points, contract considerations, service issues, quote history, and growth priorities.

Maintain regular account-contact cadence through approved communication channels and document all meaningful activity in Salesforce.

Identify account risks, relationship gaps, service concerns, and growth opportunities early enough for leadership action.

Coordinate backup coverage for assigned accounts during PTO, travel, illness, or transition periods.

VA Relationship Management and Professional Communication

Serve as the primary Sales relationship contact for assigned VA Prosthetics / PSAS personnel and other authorized VA stakeholders.

Communicate professionally, promptly, and accurately with VA contacts, Veterans or caregivers where appropriate, and internal WSC stakeholders.

Prepare for account discussions with current data on quotes, open issues, approvals, purchase orders, installations, and follow-up items.

Use approved account-facing materials, scripts, escalation language, and communication standards.

Escalate sensitive, contractual, procurement, pricing, privacy, service-failure, or compliance matters to the appropriate WSC leader before making commitments.

Opportunity, Quote, and PO Conversion Management

Own follow-up on assigned-account opportunities, RFQs, quote requests, pending quotes, approvals, and purchase-order movement.

Review technical assessments and collaborate with Operations, Installation, vendors, subcontractors, and product specialists to develop accurate and timely quotes.

Source product, pricing, and availability information through approved channels and document quote assumptions and margin considerations according to WSC standards.

Track quote aging, follow-up actions, customer responses, approval status, loss reasons, and PO conversion in Salesforce.

Support revenue growth by identifying legitimate unmet account needs and appropriate WSC solutions within VA procurement and contract rules.

Use defined escalation triggers for stalled quotes, aging approvals, missing information, and high-risk customer issues.

Salesforce Discipline and Lifecycle Documentation

Maintain complete and current Salesforce records for assigned Accounts, Contacts, Cases, Opportunities, Quotes, Activities, next steps, and related lifecycle records.

Use Salesforce as the source of truth for account activity, pipeline, quote status, follow-up cadence, escalation items, and forecast inputs.

Comply with required fields, stage definitions, activity standards, queue rules, and reporting protocols established by Sales leadership and Sales Operations / Business Intelligence.

Avoid maintaining duplicate unmanaged account trackers outside Salesforce unless specifically approved by the CGO, Senior Sales Manager, or Sales Operations / Business Intelligence lead.

Complete Salesforce cleanup and data-quality remediation for assigned accounts within the approved transition timeline.

Issue Escalation and Service Delivery Coordination

Coordinate with Customer Care, Operations, Installation, Warehouse, Finance, and Compliance teams to resolve account issues and protect customer trust.

Monitor account-related service concerns and escalate recurring or high-risk issues through defined channels.

Follow through on open account commitments until closure, while ensuring operational teams retain ownership of execution and service delivery.

Document escalations, commitments, resolution status, and customer communications in Salesforce or other approved systems.

Identify patterns that indicate account health, service-delivery, order-to-cash, or communication risks requiring leadership attention.

Cross-Functional Growth Coordination

Partner with Government Business Development on relevant VA opportunity intelligence, incumbent signals, account needs, recompete awareness, sources sought activity, and bid / no-bid context.

Partner with Marketing on approved account-facing materials, capability statements, testimonials, service proof, outreach campaigns, and relationship-support collateral.

Partner with Sales Operations / Business Intelligence on dashboards, performance trends, account health indicators, data quality, and process improvement opportunities.

Contribute account-level intelligence to leadership reviews without acting as primary capture manager, proposal writer, contracting authority, or marketing owner.

Support the Senior Sales Manager and CGO with concise account updates, risk summaries, and opportunity recommendations.

Compliance, Procurement Integrity, and Professional Conduct

Operate within VA procurement rules, WSC contract requirements, privacy obligations, and approved communication protocols.

Do not make unauthorized pricing, delivery, service, contractual, legal, or performance commitments to VA personnel or Veterans.

Do not provide gifts, favors, or improper inducements to Government personnel or seek non-public procurement information.

Protect Veteran, VA, and WSC information in accordance with WSC privacy, HIPAA, VA, and contract requirements.

Complete required WSC training before independent account outreach, including Salesforce, VA account conduct, product, quote, privacy, procurement-integrity, and escalation training.

Reporting, Forecasting, and Account Health

Provide accurate weekly updates on assigned-account pipeline, quote aging, pending approvals, PO conversion, stalled items, account risks, and growth opportunities.

Participate in pipeline reviews, account reviews, and performance discussions led by the Senior Sales Manager and CGO.

Maintain account health indicators and identify accounts requiring executive, operational, or relationship intervention.

Use data to improve follow-up quality, reduce aging, increase conversion, and support better leadership decisions.

Prepare account-level summaries for territory reviews, leadership escalations, and post-action follow-up.

Reporting Relationships and Interfaces

Reports to the Senior Sales Manager.

Works closely with the Chief Growth Officer through the sales operating cadence and periodic account reviews.

Partners with Sales Operations / Business Intelligence for Salesforce discipline, reporting, dashboard accuracy, and process improvement.

Partners with Customer Care, Operations, Installation, Warehouse, Finance, Compliance, Government Business Development, and Marketing to support account performance and growth.

Operates as an individual contributor with assigned account ownership and without direct people-management responsibility.

Required Qualifications

3 to 5 years of experience in account management, sales support, project coordination, estimating, quoting, customer relationship management, or related experience preferred.

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with VA stakeholders, internal teams, Veterans or caregivers, vendors, and leadership.

Experience using Salesforce or another CRM for account, activity, opportunity, quote, and follow-up tracking.

Strong organization, attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to manage multiple open items in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to learn WSC products, VA account structure, quoting process, margin considerations, and internal escalation rules.

High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with VA healthcare systems, Prosthetics / PSAS departments, or federal healthcare account relationships.

Experience with DME, HME, home oxygen, mobility, access products, ramps, VPLs, stairlifts, vehicle lifts, or related equipment.

Experience working with Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Cases, Opportunities, Quotes, Orders, Campaigns, dashboards, reports, or queue-based workflows.

Experience coordinating across remote teams and working through structured account plans, pipeline reviews, or service-escalation workflows.

Knowledge of VA procurement practices, contract boundaries, purchase-order workflow, and customer-facing conduct expectations.
