Position Purpose:
The User Experience Director will lead a team of UX designers, researchers, and principal-level practitioners responsible for shaping experiences across key business domains at The Home Depot. This leader will leverage their background in user-centered design, research, strategy, and organizational leadership to define and drive experience vision, influence product direction, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
This role leads a large UX organization of approximately 20-30 designers and researchers through a team of leaders, including at least four direct reports. The ideal candidate has experience leading other leaders, building high-performing teams, developing talent, and creating an environment where design excellence, customer focus, and operational effectiveness thrive.
The Director will partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Operations, Insights, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities, align priorities, and guide teams in solving complex problems through research-informed and data-driven decision making. They will help define long-term experience strategies while ensuring teams are delivering meaningful outcomes for customers, associates, and the business.
Success in this role requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, influence senior leaders, and connect experience strategy to business objectives. The ideal candidate brings experience working in retail, B2B, and/or enterprise environments and has a track record of leading teams responsible for complex systems, workflows, and digital products at scale.
This leader is a strong communicator and storyteller who can translate customer needs, business priorities, and technical constraints into a shared vision that drives alignment and action across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • 50% Experience, Design Strategy and Planning - Consistently monitor and understand customer experience KPIs and Metrics to ensure initiatives deliver value
  • Create and communicate comprehensive end-to-end experience design strategies that are data-informed and evidence-driven
  • Collaborate with all necessary partners and stakeholders to cast a broad vision of where our customer's holistic experience should be and how we get there
  • Leverage and/or create artifacts such as end-to-end customer journey maps to tell the story of where customer friction exists (online, in person, on the phone, etc.)
  • 30% Influence - Activate and conduct competitive and comparative research and analysis to formulate point-of-views on how all customer segments desire to do business with The Home Depot Leverage all available or needed artifacts, assets, studies, insights, and resources to tell the stories that will change mindsets
  • 20% Leadership and Development - Shapes and supports experience design leaders (direct reports) who can strengthen The Home Depot's user experience, improve upon existing capabilities, and develop others who understand and advocate for experience excellence across the enterprise Attracts, retains, develops, and motivates experience design talent Manages and coordinates strategic direction for staff Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to direct reports and other senior non-direct report UX leaders

Travel Requirements:
  • Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
