The Department of Communication and Journalism invites applications for a probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in Multimedia Journalism. We seek a dynamic candidate committed to teaching excellence, curriculum innovation, and student engagement. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2026/2027 academic year, August 17, 2026.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEarned doctorate, or master's degree with significant professional experience (7+ years), in Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field by August 17, 2026.
Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence in multimedia journalism and storytelling. Ability to teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced-level courses in multimedia journalism, reporting, editing, and media production.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience teaching audio storytelling, video storytelling, social storytelling, or data journalism. Expertise in emerging media trends, digital storytelling platforms, and multimedia content creation. Experience collaborating with industry professionals and fostering student-media partnerships. Ability to assist in the revitalization and modernization the journalism curriculum to include emerging storytelling formats such as audio storytelling, video storytelling, and social media storytelling.
DUTIESTeach courses in storytelling, reporting, interviewing, multimedia communication, audio and video production, and digital journalism. Engage students in experiential learning through hands-on media production, community journalism projects, and collaboration with industry professionals. Mentor and advise students, including undergraduate research and creative projects. Maintain an active program of research or creative work in multimedia journalism, storytelling, or related fields. Participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities.
