Utility workers often work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be required to work irregular hours to address emergencies. This role is critical to ensuring that communities have reliable access to necessary public services.

What do utility workers do?

A utility worker performs general maintenance tasks, often for a public space or a plant that oversees a public utility, like power or water. These positions usually require physical labor and lifting, and depending on the industry may include the operation of specialized equipment or vehicles. Typical duties involve cleaning facilities, repairing and maintaining equipment, and more. Alternatively, a food service utility worker helps with basic restaurant operations. The role often requires flexibility, as priorities can shift based on production demands or urgent maintenance needs. Utility Workers frequently collaborate with supervisors, machine operators, and maintenance teams to ensure safety standards are met and workflows remain uninterrupted. This hands-on position is ideal for those who enjoy active work and being part of a supportive team environment.
