Job description

The Vice President, Public Power is responsible for leading public power field services and metering operations, including electric, gas, and water metering services. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across field teams, client delivery, workforce planning, scheduling, dispatch optimization, financial performance, safety, quality, and process improvement.

This position will report to the Vice President, Field Services. The preferred location is Baxter, Minnesota; however, candidates in other regions may be considered based on experience and business needs. Travel is expected to be minimal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead public power field services operations with responsibility for service delivery, operational performance, client satisfaction, safety, quality, and team effectiveness.
  • Oversee electric, gas, and water metering operations, ensuring work is completed accurately, safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company and client expectations.
  • Manage P&L ownership and financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, margin management, cost control, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive scheduling and dispatch optimization to improve field productivity, resource utilization, customer response times, and overall service performance. Lead process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives using a Lean/Six Sigma mindset to improve consistency, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with internal leadership, field operations, clients, and cross-functional teams to support business objectives, service commitments, and long-term growth.
  • Develop, coach, and retain field leadership and operational teams, with a focus on talent development, succession planning, retention, accountability, and performance management.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, operational metrics, financial results, and workforce trends to identify risks, opportunities, and solutions.
  • Support safety programs, compliance requirements, quality standards, and company policies across all field service activities.
  • Provide leadership during business transitions, client changes, operational challenges, and growth initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, operations, engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred; equivalent field services leadership experience may be considered.
  • Progressive leadership experience in field services, utility operations, metering operations, public power, or a related service-based operations environment.
  • Experience with electric, gas, and/or water metering operations strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with P&L ownership, budgeting, forecasting, margin management, and operational cost control.
  • Demonstrated experience leading field-based teams, supervisors, managers, or regional operations teams.
  • Strong understanding of scheduling, dispatch, workforce planning, productivity, safety, quality, and service delivery in a field services environment.
  • Experience with process improvement, standardization, Lean/Six Sigma principles, or operational excellence initiatives preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients, internal stakeholders, field teams, and executive leadership.
