About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Natural Gas Project Manager to lead utility operations supporting electric and natural gas customer programs for a major Michigan utility. This is an operations and program management role focused on overseeing customer projects, utility programs, field support, and operational teams—not a traditional engineering position. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing utility clients, budgets, project execution, and cross-functional teams within the electric or natural gas industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day operations supporting electric and natural gas utility programs.
  • Manage utility customer projects, turnkey projects, customer service requests, and field support activities.
  • Oversee project schedules, staffing, budgets, and overall program performance.
  • Manage approximately 30 contract employees and provide leadership to multiple team leaders.
  • Coordinate project execution from customer request through final project closeout.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for utility clients and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Monitor project performance metrics and implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and utility stakeholders to resolve operational challenges.
  • Support business growth initiatives and operational improvements.
  • Participate in quarterly client meetings and team events throughout Michigan.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • 10+ years of project management or utility operations experience.
  • Experience managing projects for electric and/or natural gas utility clients.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large teams, staffing, budgets, and schedules.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting utility customer programs, work management, field support, or operations.
  • Consumers Energy experience is preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
