Job Description
RESPEC seeks a Civil Computer Aided Design (CAD) Designer located in our Fairbanks, AK office.
The Civil CAD Designer will provide drafting and design support for civil engineering projects, including site development, municipal infrastructure, and utility design. Projects will vary in size and complexity and be produced in a collaborative office environment alongside project managers, engineers, and other design professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop detailed civil engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Prepare site layout, grading, utility, and roadway plans
  • Generate plan and profile sheets from survey and design data
  • Incorporate redlines and design changes from engineers and project managers
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure design consistency and quality
  • Maintain drawing standards and file organization across multiple projects
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and basic design calculations
  • Support permitting and construction documentation packages.

Qualifications
Required:
  • 10+ years of experience in civil engineering drafting and design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, and pipe networks
  • Strong understanding of civil site design principals and municipal infrastructure
  • Experience with digital mapping, CAD standards, and drafting best practices
  • Ability to interpret engineering sketches, markups, and verbal instructions
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred:
  • Associate's degree or technical certification in drafting, engineering technology, or related field
  • Experience with Autodesk Vehicle Tracking, GIS platforms, and Bluebeam
  • Familiarity with Alaska DOT and local municipal design standards
  • Experience supporting utility coordination and permitting.
