As a Utility Construction Technician-Laborer in the Union Springs, AL area, you’ll be on the front lines performing essential tasks that directly support our operations and make an impact in the community. As a laborer, you will be responsible for performing various general labor activities and assisting at the job sites, working around underground water, wastewater, and drainage facilities. This role requires flexibility to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and on-call emergencies.

The starting hourly pay is $17.00-$18.00 per hour dependent upon experience. Candidates with enough industry experience may be able to negotiate a higher starting rate.

What You’ll Do

  • Repair and maintain water, wastewater, and drainage facilities
  • Conduct scheduled inspections and perform lawn, gardening, and general site maintenance
  • Handle dirt and gravel work, and manage inventory of parts and maintenance supplies
  • Clean office areas, including vacuuming, sweeping, trash removal, and bathroom/kitchen upkeep; perform all other duties as required

What We Need from You

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required
  • Valid Driver’s License with an insurable driving record; CDL would be a plus
  • Experience in maintaining/repairing water/wastewater and gas mains ranging from a nominal size of 3/4" up to but not limited to 10" in diameter
  • Experience with working around underground pipes, preferably in the water and sewer industry, is highly preferred
  • Experience working around underground utilities or in the construction environment is preferred
  • Heavy equipment operator experience is a plus
  • Ability to follow manuals and operating instructions, performing routine maintenance/repairs, and operating tools such as jackhammers and saws
  • Knowledgeable in process control, maintenance procedures, and safety practices; comfortable working around water and raw sewage
  • Exhibit strong communication skills, professionalism, and ability to contribute positively to team and customer interactions
  • Physically capable of lifting 50–80 lbs, moving equipment, accessing confined spaces, and walking/climbing continuously
