Job description

Purpose

Design of electric utility distribution projects. The designs are based on customer requests, and inquiries, regarding the establishment and maintenance of electrical utility service. Designs also include overhead and underground electric facilities, distribution system maintenance, repair, and improvement, public works, and routine program work.

Accountabilities
  • Apply acquired knowledge of Liberty Utilities construction standards, Electrical Service Information and Requirements, and portions of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code to construction applications.
  • Read and interpret one-line diagrams, site plans and load information.
  • Perform analysis of electrical distribution design problems.
  • Be proficient in the current expanded Work Management Systems required to produce and progress Design Packages.
  • Effectively communicate with external customers, municipal and regulatory representatives, and contractors on a regular basis.
  • Advise customers in the proper application of their electric service.
  • Perform analysis of electrical distribution design problems.
  • Interact with internal departments and company employees to ensure an efficient overall process
  • Will also be expected to respond to emergency call out and work extended and planned hours when major company emergencies occur.
  • Assist with the securing of permits and licenses, and municipal/governmental requirements to complete designs and advance the project as needed.
  • Provide technical support to operate and maintain the electrical system.
Education and Experience
  • An Associate's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in utility design, electric distribution or closely related preferred
  • Ability to follow prescribed standards and procedures
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, schedule & coordinate multiple ongoing tasks
  • Must be able to adjust to changing priorities and respond to requests in a timely fashion
  • Must be comfortable using advanced technology for the purpose of gathering and transmitting field data
  • Must have and retain a valid motor vehicle operator's license which does not restrict hours of operation
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques, strategies, and approaches
