Job description

Make Ready Designer
Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour (based on experience)
Job Summary
We are looking for a Make Ready Designer to join our team. This role plays a key part in ensuring power distribution systems comply with NESC regulations while designing and preparing utility infrastructure for upgrades or new installations. The Make Ready Designer will use industry-standard software to perform pole loading analysis, develop CAD design prints, and review designs for NESC compliance.
Responsibilities

  • Understand overhead distribution systems and client specifications to develop appropriate design solutions
  • Perform pole loading and analysis using Pole Foreman, ensuring all required data is accurately entered
  • Develop detailed design prints using CAD software for overhead and underground low-voltage distribution systems
  • Review locations for NESC violations and propose corrective actions
  • Ensure all designs meet safety standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and clients to meet project needs and deadlines
  • Provide technical guidance on new and upgraded service requirements
  • Prepare documents for proposed applicants, including overhead and underground prints and associated construction tasks
  • Support the Project Manager and project team as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent with coursework in drafting/CAD, electricity, mathematics, or related technical fields
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM or design-related field preferred
  • Experience in Make Ready design or utility design, with emphasis on overhead and underground power distribution systems preferred
  • Knowledge of utility infrastructure, including pole installation, clearances, transformers, and distribution lines
  • Familiarity with pole loading software such as Pole Foreman, PLS-CADD, or O-Calc preferred
  • Proficiency in MicroStation (Bentley OMS) or similar CAD software such as AutoCAD or Civil3D
  • Familiarity with NESC standards and ability to identify and correct violations
  • Experience with ESRI, ArcGIS, or other mapping tools is a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
  • Willingness to learn and grow within utility distribution design
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Primarily office-based with some field work as needed
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and technical documents
  • Ability to review telecommunication and utility application information
  • Occasional travel or field visits may be required
Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly pay ranging from $25.00 to $40.00 based on experience
