As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will lead the development and execution of instrumentation and electrical design packages for industrial automation and control system projects. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to develop scalable, compliant, and manufacturable solutions supporting PLC, SCADA, DCS, MCC, and industrial control applications.

This position offers strong opportunities for technical leadership, customer engagement, and long-term career growth within AWC’s engineering organization.

How you’ll make an impact:

Lead Complex Electrical and Controls Design Projects

  • Lead the design and development of industrial electrical and instrumentation drawing packages for automation and control system projects
  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, network architectures, cable schedules, and bill of materials
  • Design low-voltage power distribution, PLC control panels, remote I/O systems, industrial networks, and motor control systems
  • Support project execution from concept development through manufacturing, commissioning, and as-built documentation

Drive Technical Quality and Design Excellence

  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering standards, and applicable industry codes including NEC, ISA, API, PIP, UL, and NEMA
  • Perform design reviews and drawing checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and manufacturability
  • Support standardization efforts and help develop reusable engineering templates and best practices
  • Assist with troubleshooting, design optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering projects

Collaborate Across Engineering and Project Teams

  • Partner with engineers, project managers, panel shop personnel, and field technicians to deliver high-quality solutions on schedule
  • Support customer meetings, technical discussions, and project reviews as a subject matter resource for instrumentation and control systems
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to select components and ensure technical compatibility across systems

Expand Automation and System Integration Capabilities

  • Support industrial automation systems involving PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, DCS, instrumentation, drives, and industrial networking technologies
  • Contribute to projects involving hazardous area classifications, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and process control applications
  • Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and long-term supportability of customer systems
  • Stay current with emerging automation technologies and industry best practices to support innovative customer solutions

Skills you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial electrical design, instrumentation, or controls engineering environments
  • Strong experience designing industrial electrical and automation systems using EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, Siemens NX, or similar platforms ·
  • Proven experience with PLC control systems, motor control schematics, low-voltage power distribution, instrumentation, and industrial networking
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation systems including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, HMI, VFDs, and remote I/O architectures
  • Strong understanding of NEC, ISA, API, PIP, UL, and NEMA standards and their application in industrial environments
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, control narratives, technical specifications, and engineering standards
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
