Overview

The Active Student Specialist is responsible for the review of student files at the time of withdrawal and/or change of status. The ideal candidate in this role will have great attention to detail, strong concern for the exact correctness of work, and will have the ability to multi-task while managing multiple deadlines simultaneously. A candidate who takes their work seriously and can work at a faster-than-average pace will be most suited for success as an Active Student Specialist.

Pay Range: $20.00 - $24.00

Responsibilities
  • This position is responsible for determining the tuition obligation that students will owe to UTI upon their withdrawal. This calculation must be precise as it impacts revenue and it is critical that students are charged the appropriate tuition in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • This position is also responsible for determining and processing the appropriate Title IV refunds in accordance with Department of Education regulations. The work in this area must also be done in a precise manner and must be done timely to ensure we meet all state and federal deadlines for calculations.
  • Completes a final file review for inactive student files ensuring that the Financial Aid Advisors properly processed the file while the student was enrolled.
  • Responsible for all reports associated with the Return of Federal funds.
  • Educate students and parents on tuition charges and required refunds to assist customers in understanding the information and next steps after they leave school. Processes and tracks refunds to ensure they are completed within mandated time frames.
  • Provides federally mandated updates to the Department of Education's Common Origination Disbursement web site.
  • Stay abreast of Federal and State regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • High school/GED required, some college preferred
  • Minimum three years of experience in Financial Aid.
  • Experience with auditing and dealing with complicated calculations preferred
  • Two years customer service experience

Skills

  • Knowledge of Federal Return to Title IV Calculations required
  • Understanding of the timeliness of returning Federal and State funds
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to understand Federal and State regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer software aptitude

Abilities

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds or less 5% of the workday
  • Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday
  • Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn and reason for all of the workday
  • Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
