About the Job Universal Shield Insurance Group (and its member companies, Universal Fire & Casualty Insurance Company (www.ufcic.com) and Shield Indemnity Inc.) has an opening for an experienced Commercial Insurance P&C Underwriter at our Dublin, Ohio, Bridge Park Corporate office or our Scottsdale, AZ location. Via online state-of-the-art agency portals and direct-to-consumer retail and B2B websites, we design our products intuitively and device-agnostic to accelerate competitive underwriting decisions for our partners and customers. Key Responsibilities:
  • Objectively analyze diverse information on new and renewal business to accept, price, modify, or reject business within delegated authority level for both Admitted and Surplus Lines Products.
  • Effectively apply forms, endorsements, and deductibles to help mitigate risk.
  • Develop strong business relationships with key agents and provide underwriting guidance to the agents.
  • Maintain a profitable book of business within assigned levels of authority by using sound underwriting judgment and technical skills.
  • Continue personal industry skills and knowledge development to meet the company goals of quality and timeliness.
  • Maintain knowledge of current insurance market trends, conditions, competitive intelligence, and product and service innovations.
  • Ability to interact collaboratively and collegially with colleagues, agents, and customers in a professional manner.
Job Requirements:
  • At least two years of Commercial P&C underwriting insurance experience is required (experience with Commercial Property, General Liability, Inland Marine, BOP/CPP preferred).
  • Pursuit of CPCU, CIC, or other applicable designations with a willingness to complete preferred but not required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts - strong customer service focus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity.
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks on time.
