To thrive in User Testing, you need strong observational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of usability principles or user experience (UX) concepts. Familiarity with popular user testing tools such as UserTesting.com, Lookback, or usability testing suites is often required; some roles value certifications in usability or UX research. What is a user testing?

A User Testing job involves evaluating websites, apps, or products by providing feedback on usability, functionality, and overall user experience. Testers follow specific tasks, share their thoughts, and report any issues they encounter. Companies use this feedback to improve their products before launch. Typically, no specialized skills are required, but clear communication and attention to detail are essential. Many user testers work as freelancers or participate in tests on a per-project basis.

What does a typical day look like for someone in a user testing role?

On a typical day, someone working in User Testing may participate in scheduled testing sessions, where they evaluate software, apps, or websites while documenting their observations and usability issues. You might interact with real users, observe their behaviors, and then compile findings into clear, actionable reports for design and development teams. Collaboration is common, as user testers often work closely with product managers, designers, and developers to communicate challenges and recommend improvements. The work can be project-based or ongoing, depending on the organization and the product lifecycle. Regularly encountering new products and interfaces offers variety and opportunities to continually develop your testing and UX knowledge.

The successful candidate will lead a medium-sized team while serving as a key bridge between business stakeholders, product teams, software engineers, architects, implementation partners, and support teams. This leader will guide the analysis needed to define requirements, shape enablement strategies, document future-state processes, and validate that delivered solutions support business needs and successful adoption.
What You'll Do
  • Lead and develop a team with similar functional responsibilities in support of high-profile SaaS delivery programs
  • Partner with business, product, technology, and operations stakeholders to define and lead the enablement strategy for major technology transformations.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into business, functional, and technical requirements, backlog-ready work products, and enablement priorities for delivery teams.
  • Research and evaluate software and hardware options with business and technical partners to identify the most suitable technology solutions for organizational and business-unit needs.
  • Document current-state and future-state business process flows, upstream and downstream integrations, user impacts, operational dependencies, and supporting solution documentation to ensure new systems support business needs and adoption goals.
  • Work closely with product managers, architects, engineers, and implementation teams to ensure solutions are designed and delivered according to defined requirements and aligned with enablement needs, deployment sequencing, and go-live plans.
  • Lead the development of enablement strategies that prepare business units, leaders, and end users to successfully adopt new platforms, tools, and ways of working.
  • Define and drive readiness activities, adoption plans, stakeholder engagement approaches, transition planning, and mitigation actions needed to support implementation success.
  • Guide the team in assessing business impacts, identifying adoption risks, and surfacing gaps in process, support, access, or user experience that could affect successful rollout.
  • Partner with technical and operational teams to ensure role-based access, workflow ownership, escalation paths, and support models are in place to enable a smooth user transition.
  • Lead the end user testing function to define and execute validation approaches, coordinate business test scenarios, and confirm delivered capabilities align with business needs, functional requirements, technical requirements, intended workflows, and key user interactions.
  • Use end user testing results to identify system enhancements, translate findings into backlog-ready recommendations for engineering teams, and support solution documentation where gaps are identified.
  • Lead the creation and validation of end user enablement materials, workflows, and user-facing guidance informed by testing outcomes to help teams effectively adopt and use new capabilities.
  • Monitor enablement effectiveness through adoption metrics, readiness indicators, user feedback, and post-launch performance trends to measure sustained usage and business outcomes.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in enablement and systems analysis for technology transformation initiatives, advising teams on requirements, implementation risks, readiness needs, and adoption strategy.
  • Coach and mentor team members to strengthen systems analysis, stakeholder management, requirements definition, and enablement capabilities across the organization.
  • Lead highly complex, cross-functional initiatives while delivering high-quality outcomes on time and driving strong execution across the team.
  • Capture and share lessons learned, repeatable methods, and best practices within the team and across cross-functional partners to improve future transformation efforts.

Your Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12+ years in an applicable business or technology environment, including experience in systems analysis, enablement, enterprise transformation, solution delivery, or related work.
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience leading people and managing a medium-sized team in support of projects and programs.
  • Strong systems analysis experience, including stakeholder engagement, requirements definition, translation of requirements into backlog-ready work products, process analysis, solution documentation, and validation of solution fit.
  • Experience working closely with business stakeholders, product teams, software engineers, architects, and implementation partners.
  • Experience documenting process flows, integrations, user impacts, and operational dependencies across multiple teams or business units.
  • Experience leading enablement, adoption, or business readiness efforts for large-scale technology transformations.
  • Experience validating delivered solutions through testing support, user validation, issue resolution coordination, and adoption feedback loops.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, coaching, stakeholder management, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to lead complex initiatives, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes on time.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge
  • Master's degree preferred; technical discipline preferred.
  • Experience supporting SaaS platform implementations, enterprise collaboration tools, digital workplace modernization, or AI-enabled workflow transformation.
  • Experience working across global organizations with diverse stakeholder groups and business processes.
