What is a user generated content job?

A User Generated Content (UGC) job involves creating brand-related content, such as product reviews, social media posts, photos, or videos, made by consumers rather than traditional marketers. UGC creators are often freelance content creators who produce engaging, authentic material for brands to use in marketing campaigns. Unlike influencers, UGC creators focus on content creation rather than personal audience influence. This type of work is popular in social media marketing, as brands seek relatable, customer-driven content. Many UGC creators work on a freelance or contract basis, collaborating with multiple brands.

What types of projects or content will I be responsible for as a user generated content specialist?

As a User Generated Content specialist, you will curate, edit, and often create content sourced from a brand’s community, which may include customer reviews, images, videos, and testimonials. Your daily tasks may involve moderating submissions, ensuring content meets quality and compliance guidelines, and collaborating with marketing or social media teams to showcase standout contributions. You might also help develop campaigns that encourage community participation and engagement. This role is highly collaborative and offers opportunities to influence brand perception while working closely with cross-functional teams. As you gain experience, you may take on greater responsibilities such as campaign strategy or team leadership.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the user generated content position, and why are they important?

To excel in a User Generated Content (UGC) role, candidates should possess strong content creation skills, a keen understanding of digital media trends, and often a background in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems, social media platforms, basic editing software, and analytics tools is typically required. Outstanding creativity, adaptability, and collaboration skills make individuals stand out in this dynamic environment. These competencies are vital for producing engaging content that resonates with audiences and drives community interaction across digital platforms.

Senior Content Strategist

Rentspree

Seattle, WA • On-site

Job description

About RentSpree
Renting should be faster, fairer, and less stressful than it is. We're the infrastructure that makes that happen. Four million users. 300+ real estate company and MLS partnerships. Ten years of consistent growth. From applications and screening to payments and lease management, the full rental journey runs on RentSpree.
Recognized by Forbes as a Best Startup Employer and by BuiltIn Seattle as a Best Place to Work.
Senior Content Strategist - Seattle, WA (Hybrid)
The Growth & Marketing team is building the growth engine across the entire RentSpree customer experience, fueling our next stage of scale. We're data-driven, insight-obsessed, and committed to exceeding acquisition, adoption, and revenue goals while strengthening trust with both Agents and Landlords.
As our Senior Content Strategist, you will build the repeatable content engine that fuels both agents and landlords, supporting our growth roadmap while also unlocking new opportunities over time. This role is a core builder in shifting RentSpree from traditional marketing to a flywheel-driven growth system, one where RentSpree-produced content and user-generated content work in tandem. Our most credible voices aren't us: they're the agents and landlords already using RentSpree every day. This role finds, activates, and amplifies those voices alongside our own, creating compounding momentum across acquisition, activation, and retention.
Hybrid in Seattle, WA. Three in-office collaboration days weekly plus occasional travel for off-sites and events.
What You'll Do
Build the Content Engine end-to-end
  • Drive end-to-end content strategy across a B2B/C audience (agents and landlords): develop a prosumer and consumer-first integrated content and distribution plan to drive flywheel momentum across our two core audiences.
  • Stand up repeatable production systems: build a production engine, not a content calendar. Set up advanced AI and agentic workflows, employ contractors, and repurpose content across channels to accelerate ideation, drafting, repurposing, distribution, and measurement, raising velocity without sacrificing quality or brand trust.
  • Create scalable content that drives "Learn → Activate → Refer": translate core product value and best practices into content that improves conversion, activation, and retention across both flywheels.

Drive durable growth through our customers:
  • Develop a customer proof engine: our customers are busy professionals on the go. Think short-form, digestible, video-forward educational snippets, customer testimonials, and customer and community advocacy pieces across YouTube and social.
  • Build a nano-influencer + customer advocate motion: recruit, enable, and activate credible voices (agents + landlords) to create trusted content, testimonials, and co-marketing moments.

Partner tightly with Growth, PMM, Product, Data, and Sales
  • Collaborate on a flywheel-aligned roadmap: partner with Growth Marketing, Product Marketing, and Product to ensure content + community efforts map to the highest-leverage opportunities and key metrics.
  • Operate with experimentation rigor: define hypotheses, run tests, and iterate content/community motions based on performance and learnings, building a playbook the org can scale.
  • Support brand elevation through bold, dynamic storytelling: help shift market perception of RentSpree beyond a point solution through clear, trusted, and differentiated narratives and customer stories.

Our job descriptions evolve with our business needs and priorities. Your role may include other tasks, projects, and team support.
Skills You Bring
  • 5-10+ years in content strategy, content directon, editorial, creator/influencer, or integrated marketing roles, ideally within SaaS, proptech, and B2C businesses.
  • Proven experience building repeatable content systems and production engines, leveraging AI workflows to increase velocity: strategy, production, distribution, and measurement.
  • Strong instincts for trust-building storytelling: customer advocacy, testimonials, user generated content, and creator/influencer partnerships that move adoption, not just engagement.
  • Expert creative and editorial judgment across platforms - you can film or direct a dynamic video and write a NYT-worthy article all in one day.
  • Experience launching and scaling UGC or advocacy programs (webinar programs, ambassador programs, creator/influencer programs, customer councils).
  • Comfort partnering cross-functionally with Growth, PMM, Product, Sales, and Data, and translating priorities into content and programs that drive measurable outcomes.
  • AI fluency: hands-on use of AI tools/workflows to accelerate production, repurposing, and insights - brand-safe and quality-driven.

Qualities You Practice
These are the principles we hire for and hold ourselves to:
  • Own it end to end. Drive projects from idea to execution. Take pride in the work. Do what it takes.
  • Communicate like a teammate. Direct, candid, and respectful. Give feedback well, receive it well, and build trust through transparency.
  • Hold a high bar. Think critically. Stay curious. Keep looking for ways to do it better.
  • Stay adaptable. Anticipate challenges, take initiative, and bring resourcefulness to whatever comes next.
  • Experiment and learn fast. Try things. Learn from what doesn't work. Keep it simple.
  • Debate well, commit fully. Push back constructively, contribute your point of view, then align and move together.
  • AI is a core skill. Use AI tools to move faster and think sharper.
