Job description

Title: UX STRATEGIST / UX DESIGNER
Duration: 12+ Months
Location: Remote
Client: New York City - Metropolitan Transportation Authority
Project Overview:
We are supporting a large-scale, enterprise-level digital transformation initiative focused on the complete redesign and modernization of a high-traffic, public-facing website platform within a highly regulated, service-driven environment. The goal of this initiative is to deliver a modern, user-centric digital experience that reflects a strong and consistent brand identity, improves navigation and usability, and ensures a fully mobile-first experience across all devices.

This effort will also focus heavily on expanding flexible content capabilities, strengthening search engine optimization (SEO), and increasing user engagement through enhanced features such as subscription services, alerts, and other high-impact digital interactions. The platform supports millions of users daily and plays a critical role in delivering real-time information and services.

The environment includes a modern CMS (Drupal), JavaScript frameworks (React and VueJS), real-time data feeds, and multiple third-party integrations. This is a highly visible, mission-critical platform requiring professionals who have successfully delivered large-scale website redesigns in government, public sector, or similarly complex environments.

Candidates must bring deep experience in user-centered design, information architecture, and enterprise web development, including:

  • Proven experience designing and redesigning large-scale websites (preferably within government or public sector environments)
  • Strong background in UX/UI, information architecture, and accessibility-driven design (WCAG standards)
  • Experience developing and integrating web applications and third-party tools
  • Hands-on experience working with Drupal CMS in enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with compliance and security requirements typical of regulated environments
  • Experience supporting large-scale content migrations (5,000+ pages) while preserving SEO and performance

This is an opportunity to work on a highly impactful platform where performance, scalability, accessibility, and user experience are critical to success.

Role Overview:
We are looking for a UX Strategist to lead user experience design and information architecture for a large-scale digital platform. This role will shape how millions of users interact with complex, data-driven systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct user research and stakeholder interviews
  • Redesign information architecture and navigation flows
  • Develop wireframes, sitemaps, and user journeys
  • Improve usability of complex application interfaces
  • Ensure accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1)
  • Support A/B testing and user validation efforts

Required Experience

  • 8-10+ years in UX design or UX strategy
  • Experience with large-scale, high-traffic platforms
  • Strong experience in information architecture

What We're Really Looking For

  • Experience simplifying complex systems into intuitive experiences
  • Strong background in mobile-first design
  • Experience working with real-time or data-heavy interfaces

Screening Questions

  • Have you worked on platforms with thousands of pages or large user bases?
  • What tools do you use for wireframing and prototyping?
  • Have you implemented accessibility standards in your designs?
