Job description

The Neuropathology Core/Brain Bank of the USC Alzheimer's Disease Research Center seeks a Research Technician I to join our research team. Under the supervision of Director Dr. Annie Hiniker, Norman and Mary Pattiz Foundation Endowed Associate Professor, this technician will perform Brain Bank biological laboratory work, with a focus on implementing a digital pathology library. Under supervision, this position is responsible for assisting with scientific aspects of the Neuropathology core including human brain processing, accession, immunostaining, sample organization, slide scanning, and data management and acquisition. The position requires experience in basic biologic lab techniques and excellent organizational skills. Familiarity with pathologic diagnosis and neurodegenerative disease is preferred. The incumbent may also carry out additional work aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's Disease and related neurodegenerative diseases.

Responsibilities:

  • Brain bank scientific organization, including human brain processing, accession, and immunostaining.
  • Neuropathologic sample organization, slide scanning, and diagnostic data acquisition
  • Use basic computer software for bank organization, data management, and tissue requests.
  • Prepare commonly used lab reagents and interact with core facilities and other labs to implement slide staining, scanning, digitization, and library building.
  • Maintain slide, block, and lab organization in compliance with university environmental health and safety standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

Hourly range:
The hourly rate range for this position is. $22.43 to $28.22. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education:
High school or equivalent
Preferred Education: Associate's Degree
Minimum Experience: <1 year
Preferred Qualifications:
-BS/BA in a biology-related field
-1+ years experience in basic molecular biology techniques including immunostaining
