Technical Writer II Location Onsite/Offsite mix, McLean, VA area preferred Clearance Low Risk / Non-Sensitive - National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI); USDOT PIV/ID card required About the Role We're hiring Technical Writers to research, draft, and refine content for a federal transportation research magazine, technical reports, and web content. You'll work directly with engineers and researchers to turn complex data into clear, accurate, and engaging narratives for technical and general audiences. What You'll Do Research and write original content for magazine features, newsletters, fact sheets, and technical reports. Interview subject matter experts and attend briefings to gather accurate technical information. Perform substantive editing and rewriting to improve clarity, flow, and organization. Fact-check technical claims, data, and references; verify schematics and tables align with text. Coordinate reviews and approvals with technical staff and communications leadership. Maintain version control across multiple concurrent writing assignments. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related scientific/technical field. 5 10 years of professional technical writing/editing experience. Working knowledge of GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style. Experience in transportation, highway, or surface transportation research strongly preferred.
