The AI Software Engineering Intern role will collaborate with our product development teams, applying AI to streamline how the organization designs, builds, and reviews solutions. The internship will focus on leading and supporting key initiatives while providing flexible support across our Software Portfolio AI efforts. The intern will join the team while several projects are underway, including helping define a new AI-driven "POD" model for end-to-end feature development, building a BRD Creation skill for the AI Dev Portal, and enhancing the existing BRD Reviewer skill based on several months of team feedback. The intern will collaborate within the agile development team and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced, customer-first environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing technical work with process design and cross-team facilitation.
Must Have:
  • Must be local to Raleigh/Durham, NC Area. This is a hybrid role at least 2-3 days a week in person.
  • Knowledge of developing AI systems.
  • Agentic System Knowledge (Prompt Engineering, LLM, RAG, Vector Databases)

Responsibilities:
Project 1: AI-Driven Development "PODs" (New Process Design)
  • Participate in the design and definition of a new "POD" operating model, in which each solution/feature is developed end-to-end within a dedicated environment combining architect, business analyst (BA), and product manager/product owner roles, with QA support.
  • Help identify and document the key human "gateways" within an otherwise AI-driven development process - the points where human review, decisions, or approvals are required.
  • Assist in piloting the POD concept on a sample feature or solution to validate the model before broader rollout.
  • Help create supporting process documentation, templates, and guidelines for how PODs are formed, and operated.
  • Work with architects, BAs, product managers/owners, and QA to gather input and refine the process based on real usage.

Project 2: BRD Creation Skill (AI Dev Portal)
  • Gather input from multiple internal teams on existing business requirements document (BRD) practices, templates, and tools currently in use across the organization.
  • Analyze and consolidate scattered, team-specific documentation practices into a standardized approach that works across teams.
  • Design, build, and test a new "BRD Creation" skill for the AI Dev Portal, as the companion to the existing BRD Review skill.
  • Run and iterate on pilot tests of the skill using real or representative use cases.
  • Present findings and drive buy-in from internal stakeholders to support adoption of the new skill.

Project 3: BRD Reviewer Skill - Follow-Up & Enhancement
  • Gather validation and feedback from teams that have been using the BRD Reviewer skill over the past several months.
  • Analyze usage feedback to identify gaps, pain points, and improvement opportunities.
  • Implement enhancements to improve the skill's accuracy and performance.
  • Validate improvements with stakeholders and document the updates made.

General:
  • Participate in the design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance of systems supporting a variety of applications and business-critical functionality.
  • Work directly within the agile development team and stakeholders to help with existing requirements, adhere to timelines, and meet deliverables.
  • Learn about TGCS product offerings and how clients use them.
  • Learn about how TGCS products go from an idea to a fully-fledged product.

Required Skills:
  • Currently pursuing Computer Science/Engineering major in Undergraduate Studies
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, team-based environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to gather and synthesize input from multiple stakeholders and teams
  • Programming and analytical skills, problem determination and debugging, attention to detail, teamwork and excellent communication skills.
