Urgently Hiring Ramp Controller information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a ramp controller, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Ramp Controller, you need a solid understanding of airport operations, aircraft movements, and safety protocols, often supported by relevant aviation certifications or prior ramp experience. Familiarity with radio communication systems, airport management software, and ground movement surveillance tools is typically required. Strong situational awareness, decisive communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are critical soft skills for this role. These skills ensure the safe, efficient, and coordinated movement of aircraft and vehicles on the ramp, minimizing delays and preventing safety incidents.

What is the difference between Urgently Hiring Ramp Controller vs Ramp Supervisor?

AspectUrgently Hiring Ramp ControllerRamp Supervisor
CredentialsTypically requires certification in ground operations or safety trainingRequires similar certifications, often with additional supervisory or management training
Work EnvironmentGround-level, fast-paced airport or cargo terminalOversees ramp activities, managing teams and operations
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in airlines, cargo companies, and ground handling servicesCommonly used in larger operations overseeing ramp staff

The Urgently Hiring Ramp Controller focuses on executing ground operations and safety procedures, often in a fast-paced environment. The Ramp Supervisor oversees and manages ramp staff, ensuring smooth operations. While both roles require similar certifications and work in the same industry, the Ramp Supervisor has additional responsibilities related to team management and operational oversight.

What does a ramp controller do?

A Ramp Controller is responsible for coordinating and managing aircraft movements on the airport ramp or apron area, ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow between gates, taxiways, and parking stands. They communicate with pilots, ground crew, and air traffic control to prevent collisions and delays. Ramp Controllers also help manage ground support vehicles and respond to emergencies or irregular operations as needed.

What are some common challenges faced by ramp controllers, and how can new hires prepare for them?

Ramp Controllers often work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments where they must coordinate aircraft movements on the ground safely and efficiently. Common challenges include managing multiple aircraft arriving or departing simultaneously, responding quickly to weather changes or emergencies, and maintaining constant communication with pilots, ground crews, and air traffic control. New hires can prepare by developing strong multitasking abilities, sharpening their communication skills, and familiarizing themselves with airport layout and standard operating procedures. Continuous on-the-job training and teamwork are essential for success in this role.

Mechanical Automation Engineer

Compensation: $90,000 - $154,000 annually + equity
Location: El Segundo, CA
Work Policy: Onsite
Level: L2 through L3 senior
Hiring Count: 2
Core KPIs: Equipment commissioning, automation reliability, and production readiness

Who we are

Rangeview is on a mission to build the foundry system that reindustrializes America. We exist to break the legacy manufacturing trap by reinventing critical production for the twenty-first century. Through advanced software, deep automation, breakthroughs in materials science, and modern financing strategies, Rangeview rewrites both the cost curve and the power structure of making metal parts.

What's in it for you

This is an opportunity to design, build, test, and commission automated manufacturing equipment that directly supports Rangeview's production ramp. You will work on real factory equipment, not theoretical process work, and your designs will impact throughput, quality, safety, and production readiness.

You will collaborate closely with Production, Materials & Process Engineering, and other technical teams to bring equipment from concept through deployment. This role is a strong fit for someone who wants hands-on ownership, enjoys solving manufacturing problems on the floor, and wants to help build automation systems in a high-growth industrial environment.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop manufacturing equipment from concept through production.
  • Evaluate, qualify, and engage vendors for components, subsystems, and full pieces of manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform failure mode analysis to ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and performant.
  • Collaborate with Production, Materials & Process Engineering, and other peer teams to align projects to business goals.
  • Resolve issues encountered in production and develop and test engineering changes as needed.
  • Ensure equipment meets requirements for throughput, quality, safety, and footprint.
  • Identify and drive improvement projects to improve current manufacturing processes.
  • Document equipment so it is simple and intuitive for operators to use, even when the underlying systems are complex.
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and handoff of equipment into reliable production use.

What you'll need

  • 3+ years of engineering experience in aerospace, automation, manufacturing, or a closely related environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design tools such as CAD, FEA, PLM, or similar systems.
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with industrial controls, including PLCs, HMIs, and common controls components.
  • Experience owning or contributing meaningfully to automated equipment builds.
  • Strong mechanical design skills, including materials selection, statics/dynamics, tolerancing, component selection, and related fundamentals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work full-time, W2, onsite in El Segundo, CA.
  • This role may require access to ITAR-controlled technical data. Candidates must be currently authorized to access ITAR-controlled information as a U.S. person, including as a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with investment casting, vacuum melting and casting, heat treatment, ceramics manufacturing, or similar manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with SLA printers, furnaces, or high-vacuum systems.
  • Familiarity with highly regulated production environments and safety-critical equipment.
  • Experience working for a high-growth technology company, startup, or rapidly scaling manufacturing environment.

Additional requirements

  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.

Compensation

Please note that the compensation information below is a general guideline. Compensation is based on demonstrated candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Level 2: $108,000 - $132,000 annually + equity
Level 3 / Senior: $126,000 - $154,000 annually + equity
