Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in a secure corrections oncology unit, requiring Epic experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details
  • Hospital-based MS/Tele unit operating within a secure corrections environment for Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates
  • Unit is locked with access controlled by Corrections Officers (CO); CO-to-inmate ratio is 1:2
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for PCU assignments and 1:4-5 for MS assignments
  • Shifts may be assigned to either the MS or PCU side of the unit depending on staffing needs
  • Patient population includes active oncology diagnoses and treatments (solid tumors, hematology), oncology workup admissions, and non-oncology admissions (surgical, COPD, sepsis, pneumonia, etc.)
  • Clinical skills utilized include telemetry/dysrhythmia monitoring, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central/PICC line management, hemodialysis care, PCA management, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway management
  • Medication dispensing via Pyxis; documentation via Epic (experience required)
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
  • Rotating day/night contracts (12D/N) are possible — shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing priorities
  • Weekend shift requirements vary based on unit needs
  • Floating to various Oncology MS units as needed
Requirements
  • Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Two professional references required: at least one must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; co-worker references are not accepted
Additional Information
  • This position is in a secure, locked corrections unit — candidates must be comfortable working in a controlled-access environment with Corrections Officers present
  • Oncology support services available on-site include pharmacy, respiratory services, rapid response teams, physical therapy, radiology, social services, interpretation services, and transportation
  • Candidates must complete Ohio state fingerprinting as soon as possible after signing a contract — those outside Ohio will need to travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location or complete a mailed fingerprinting packet urgently upon receipt
  • Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with the application and built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or fewer for the contract duration
