Job description

Job Title: Machine OperatorJob Description

This role oversees the safe and efficient operation of production machinery to supply high-quality products while consistently meeting deadlines. The position includes training and providing general direction to assistant machine operators, assisting with the creation of standard operating procedures and other production-related documentation, performing inventory data entry, and cross-training into other job functions as needed. The role requires regular attendance at departmental, production, safety, and company meetings and involves operating a sit-down forklift and reroller machine that feeds into a lamination machine within the conversion department.

Responsibilities
  • Operate production machinery, including reroller and peeler machines, to produce high-quality products that meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Set up, run, and monitor machines to ensure proper operation, making adjustments as needed to maintain product quality and consistency.
  • Operate a sit-down forklift safely to move materials, products, and components throughout the conversion department.
  • Feed materials from the reroller machine into the lamination machine in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Provide training and general direction to assistant machine operators to ensure they follow proper procedures and safety practices.
  • Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other production-related documentation.
  • Perform inventory data entry accurately to track materials, finished goods, and production output.
  • Cross-train into other job functions as needed to support overall production operations and maintain workflow.
  • Attend departmental, production, safety, and company meetings on a routine basis and actively participate in discussions and initiatives.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout when applicable, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot basic machine issues and escalate more complex problems as needed to minimize downtime.
  • Support machine setup and changeovers to meet different production requirements and product specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, recognizing that working with rubber manufacturing processes may result in getting dirty.
  • Work assigned shifts, including first, second, or third shift, and be available for 1–2 Saturdays per month as required by production demands.
Essential Skills
  • At least 4 years of machine operator or manufacturing experience.
  • At least 1 year of manufacturing experience with hands-on machine operation.
  • Proficiency in machine operation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating a sit-down forklift, with the ability to do so safely and efficiently.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • English fluency, including the ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
  • Proven ability to multitask and remain effective in a stressful production environment.
  • Comfort working in an environment where work with rubber and machinery may cause clothing and hands to become dirty.
  • Willingness and ability to attend routine departmental, production, safety, and company meetings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in the paper industry is highly valued for this role.
  • Familiarity with overhead crane operation.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and safe energy control practices.
  • Experience with machine setup and changeovers.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for production machinery.
  • Experience operating sit-down forklifts in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
  • Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled industrial environment.
Why Work Here?

Employees benefit from a comprehensive benefits package that supports both health and financial well-being, including medical coverage through a major provider, dental coverage, and vision benefits. A 401(k) plan with up to a 4% company match encourages long-term financial planning and savings. Team members enjoy 8 paid holidays and accrue paid time off at a rate of 2.46 hours per pay period, supporting work-life balance and time away from work. The organization emphasizes a strong company culture and an organized facility, offering stability and opportunities for cross-training and skill development.

Work Environment

This position is based in a rubber manufacturing facility within the conversion department. The environment is not climate controlled, so it can become warm during the summer and cool during the winter. While the facility is organized and not considered excessively dirty, working with rubber manufacturing processes means employees should expect to get somewhat dirty while operating machinery and handling materials. The facility has a strong company culture and emphasizes organization and safety. Employees operate machinery such as reroller and peeler machines and use a sit-down forklift, with potential exposure to overhead cranes and lockout/tagout procedures. The role includes one 20-minute paid lunch break per shift, and smoke breaks are not permitted. Available shifts include first shift (for example, approximately 6:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and second shift (for example, approximately 2:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), with the expectation of working 1–2 Saturdays per month depending on production needs. Dress and personal appearance should be suitable for an industrial environment where contact with rubber and machinery is routine.
