Position Summary Information
General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, Physical Plant, the Custodian is responsible for cleanliness, sanitation, and orderliness both inside and outside of areas assigned, and for the removal of waste collected. This is a part-time regular position.
Essential Functions
Clean All Aspects of Assigned Area
Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, and trash receptacles, and mop restroom floors. Clean and fill toilet paper and paper towel dispensers. Clean mirrors, handrails, floors, glass doors, windows, window ledges, file cabinets, blinds, shelves, tables, chairs, dry erase boards, ceilings, diffusers, and air ducts. Vacuum, empty trash cans, and replace liners.
Secure Area
Assure all doors are locked and lights turned off before leaving the area.
Assist with Room Set-Ups
Transport tables and chairs for classroom/area set-ups and return to storage after event. Install floor coverings in gym. Pull out bleachers, set up stage, podium, and sporting equipment.
Safety and Security
Understand the dangers and safety precautions in the use of chemicals. Display "wet floor" signs when appropriate and remove them when floors are dry.

Marginal Functions
  1. Restock cleaning carts and area janitor closets
  2. Spray for insects
  3. Water plants
  4. Assist with snow removal
  5. Monitor inside building security for theft
  6. Make sure the building is cleared and no one re-enters in case of fire
  7. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  8. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  9. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Knowledge of custodial supplies, materials, and equipment. Skill and ability to use this knowledge.
  2. Ability to move approximately 100 pounds a short distance with assistance.
  3. Ability to move 50 pounds up to 30 feet.
  4. Ability to work with cleaning chemicals.
  5. Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of students, staff, and public.
  6. Ability to work as a productive member of a maintenance team using the established practices, procedures, and policies of the college and directives of the supervisor.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  8. Ability to use basic computer skills.
  9. The individual must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. High School graduate or GED.
  2. One (1) year of successful experience in the custodial area.

Benefits
Part-time regular employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College. Additionally, part-time regular employees may enroll in supplemental benefits and the group vision plan through employee-paid premiums.
Schedule
Three part-time positions are available:
4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. This is a part-time regular position working up to 29 hours per week.
