Job description

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give someone is simply our time.

Uplift Hospice is looking for compassionate volunteers who would like to become a friend and companion to a hospice patient. Many of our patients experience loneliness and would love to have someone who will sit with them, listen to their stories, share a laugh, or simply enjoy a quiet moment together.

As a Companion Volunteer, you can make a meaningful difference just by being present.

Responsibilities

  • Spend meaningful one-on-one time with hospice patients.
  • Provide companionship, conversation, and a friendly presence.
  • Listen to stories, memories, and experiences.
  • Play cards, board games, or other simple activities.
  • Read books, watch a favorite television program, or enjoy music together.
  • Help patients feel heard, valued, and connected.
  • Provide emotional support through kindness, patience, and genuine friendship.
  • Respect the patient’s privacy, dignity, and personal preferences.
  • Communicate any concerns or significant changes to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Who We're Looking For

You don't need special skills or experience—just a caring heart and a willingness to be a friend.

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • Compassionate and patient
  • Good listeners
  • Dependable and respectful
  • Comfortable spending time with elderly and hospice patients
  • Willing to engage in simple activities and conversation
  • Interested in making a positive difference in someone's life

Why Volunteer?

Your visit may be the highlight of someone's day.

A conversation, a shared laugh, a game of cards, or simply sitting together can remind a patient that they are not alone and that they still matter.

If you have time to give and a heart to share, there is a patient waiting for a friend. Join Uplift Hospice and help us bring companionship, connection, and a little more joy to someone's journey.
