Job description

You've done the migrations, designed the tenants, untangled the identity problems others gave up on, and you've architected large office networks. Your next step is a role where clients calls you when the stakes are highest, and where you walk into a new environment and shape what the engagement should look like.

Cobaltix handles technology for Bay Area companies that invest in their infrastructure and make it an asset: biotech and research labs, financial firms, and fast-growing teams in various industries. Our people excel by understanding the technology deeply, knowing how it fits into a client's business (what it costs, what it's worth, what problem is really being solved), and by building long-standing relationships. That's the path to success in this role.

What the work actually looks like: You'll be the technical, hands-on lead for a set of clients you get to know deeply over time. The work varies: Entra ID tenant designs for firms with serious compliance requirements, Exchange mail flow problems that MSPs gave up on, hybrid Azure migrations that have to go right the first time, and multi-site network designs that hold up across headquarters and satellite offices. Increasingly, clients also ask how to think about AI. The landscape is changing and part of the job is helping them cut through the noise, understand what's actually useful for their business, and adopt and build tools without creating security or data governance problems. You'll be in client meetings, you'll write the runbook, and you'll execute it alongside the rest of the team. This is a hybrid role in San Francisco, on-site usually but remote when it makes sense. Our average is a 60/40 split on-site/remote.

Why you shouldn't apply: You want to work fully remote, work with a narrow tech stack or you want to get to a pure management position. Those are real jobs, just not this one.

Compensation: $140k to $170k total (base plus monthly bonus), $10k signing bonus. Full-time, not a contract role. The path beyond that is based on performance.

A sample of our benefits:

  • $2,600/year technology budget
  • 100% employee health, 25% family
  • $1,000/year wellness benefit (a gym membership or a massage for a spouse both count)
  • Dental $5k, vision $1k, orthodontia $1k, no copay or deductible

Company Description

About Cobaltix: We’re the discreet consulting firm used by some of the most forward-thinking companies. We have a passion for technology, specifically putting it in the hands of smart people who do great things with it. While our clients do call us to put out fires, they also call for advice on how to transform their businesses in other ways. We like people, and our relationships with our clients are key. We have a way of understanding business that helps us make technology a strategic asset for our clients, not just a necessary cost.
