The Engineering Technician I is responsible for performing electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing on current and new product designs under close supervision. This role supports continuous improvement initiatives to reduce the potential for product defects and contributes to laboratory operations in accordance with established standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
  • Set up test equipment and products in the correct sequence in accordance with approved test procedures.
  • Perform testing on prototypes, existing products, and competitor products based on defined criteria involving mechanical, electrical, environmental, and electromechanical functions, in compliance with ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations.
  • Utilize a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic measurement instruments.
  • Accurately interpret, record, and document scientific notation, temperature, pressure, and other measurement data.
  • Assist with the assembly and fabrication of test equipment and prototype products according to blueprint specifications.
  • Follow guidelines related to bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Support manufacturing through troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain test-related documentation within database systems and assist with database administration as required.
  • Prepare formal and informal test reports.
  • Assist with Engineering Laboratory audits and support 5S workplace organization initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications and Experience
  • 1 year experience participating in project teams
  • 1 year experience using specialized equipment such as engine dynamometers
  • Experience participating in cross-functional or project teams
  • Familiarity with electrical measurement equipment such as multimeters, power analyzers, and similar instruments
  • Welding and general fabrication experience
  • General knowledge of combustion engines

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to work non-standard or extended hours when required
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to complete projects within established guidelines
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Aptitude to coordinate and manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously
  • Basic understanding of electrical techniques and theories
  • Demonstrated testing competency in accordance with ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations
  • Ability to provide and maintain a basic personal tool set

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
