The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Med Wellness & Recreation - Group Fitness has exciting opportunities for temporary Wellness Instructors to work in Miami, FL. The Wellness Instructor conducts assessments, develops, and implements training regimens, provides motivated fitness coaching, facilitates science-based workforce interventions, and monitors fitness areas to assist members in wellness programs and training.

  • Conducts fitness and health risk assessments and baseline biometric testing.

  • Reviews health history questionnaires to assess risk factors that may require medical clearance.

  • Compiles and manages member intervention and fitness data using relevant programs.

  • Develops and implements structured exercise programs for members, such as personal training.

  • Monitors participants engaged in fitness and intervention programs.

  • Develops and presents fitness and intervention educational sessions to members.

  • Answers members' questions and instructs them on how to operate equipment.

  • Ensures members are following policies and procedures in the fitness areas.

  • Supervises fitness area and classrooms and inspects cardio, training, and functional equipment for damage, wear, loss, and improper usage.

  • Assists wellness programs and membership staff in facilitation of orientations, educational programs, and marketing campaigns.

Department Specific Functions

  • Teach group exercise classes (in-person and/or virtual), including Yoga at various levels, Mat and Reformer Pilates, and Dance classes.

  • Act as substitute as needed for other class instructors.

  • Offer challenging and educational exercise routines to help members reach their health and fitness goals while maintaining safety and remaining within scope of practice.

  • Achieve daily class attendance goals by developing strong relationships with current class participants and working to attract new participants.

  • Set up equipment, test microphone, and greet members as they enter fitness room.

  • Maintain, clean, re-rack and organize all equipment at the end of class.

  • Attend mandatory meetings and master class sessions as required.

  • Maintain all mandatory education certifications.

  • Maintain constant communication with Fitness & Wellness Center administrative offices and supervisor by email, phone, in person, etc.

  • Follow all Fitness & Wellness Center policies, procedures, and standards including existing music and video policies.

  • Other job related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Certification in relevant specialty or field

  • Minimum two years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Commitment to the University's core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
