Job description

As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking a Custodial Technician who will promote Marian University's Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by providing exceptional service to students, faculty, and staff by acting as the primary point of contact for all communication for Custodial Technician.. Keeping the university buildings and grounds, clean, neat, and in a safe manner.
General Statement of Job:
Performs cleaning duties in the facility buildings to keep areas in clean and orderly condition. Cleaning duties are completed by following established schedules and cleaning frequencies; and by using prescribed work techniques, procedures, equipment, and materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively engages the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan Intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Clean assigned spaces
  • Dust and wet mop/vacuum all non-carpeted floors and stairwells.
  • Vacuum carpets daily and upholstered furniture periodically.
  • Clean restrooms, floors, spot clean carpeted floors, fixtures, chrome, glass, walls, restock paper and soap supplies, and empty trash receptacles.
  • Properly remove and dispose of all trash.
  • Spot clean walls, wash walls as assigned.
  • Wash, damp wipe, or spot clean desks, furniture, window ledges, lockers, and shelving as needed, or assigned.
  • Equipment use in restrooms and other hard surface floors as needed.
  • High dust above shoulder height, also dust vent covers.
  • Clean chalk board, whiteboards, and erasers.
  • Clean internal glass, entrance doors and internal doors.
  • Clean fixtures in labs and other areas.
  • Clean and polish chrome.
  • Clean elevators and elevator tracks.
  • Report needed repairs to building and equipment to manager.
  • Snow removal/salting at entry ways.
  • Attend all department training sessions.
  • Employee MUST follow all University and departmental rules, regulations/policies, and procedures.
  • Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in a safe manner

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
