Job description

Job Summary
The position requires the ability to work safely and efficiently in a multi-tasking environment. The Universal Aggregate Operator will be responsible for operating various pieces equipment (i.e dragline, crusher, wet plant, loader) and maintaining consistent production levels. While operating loader will efficiently load of a variety of material in varying ground conditions. Responsibilities also include performing high levels of maintenance and machine servicing, identifying problems with the material being mined for quality problems. The Operator will be required to maintain a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work area. A strong background in Aggregate Operations with an emphasis on strong dragline maintenance /repair skills. A successful candidate must be flexible and willing to transition from one position to another.

Responsibilities
  • Safely and efficiently operate aggregate equipment, this includes house keeping and maintaining a clean work area
  • Operation of dragline 7 cubic yard or larger, in a safe and efficiently manner in order to achieve production goals
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections of all equipment to be operated, including dragline, to identify any safety hazards or maintenance requirements (i.e. fuel, grease etc.)
  • Performs plant maintenance
  • Accurately judge distance and surrounding work areas (i.e distance to load hopper)
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors, customers, and coworkers to help ensure smooth operations
  • Address housekeeping issues and maintain clean work area
  • Comply with operating practice and procedures, safety rules, and regulations per MSHA regulations. Follow safe practices and all CalPortland Safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct required pre/post trip inspections and submit daily vehicle/equipment inspection report
  • Understands the process flow of the plant and is diligent in producing a quality sand and gravel material. Ensuring sand and gravel material while ensuring that established production goals are met
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on the dragline and all other aggregate equipment, including lubrication, inspection, and minor repairs, to ensure optimal performance and longevity
  • Successfully completes and maintains Method 9 Emissions certification
  • Other job duties as assigned

Education
High school diploma/GED
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, drive, ride, twist, push/pull of controls and ride on rough terrain
  • Able to lift and or move 75 pounds on a routine basis, and 100 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Safely and efficiently operate aggregate equipment
  • Able to work extended hours including weekends. (i.e 12-hour workdays)
  • Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and have reliable transportation to work
  • Current MSHA Training Certification
  • Able to work in wet and /or dry conditions and extreme heat and cold
  • Work environment may include moving mechanical parts, airborne particles and moderate to loud noises, requiring the consistent use of appropriate PPE
  • Must have effective communication and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of crushers, wash plants, conveyors, material washers, and various other types of fixed and mobile equipment used in the aggregate industry
  • Knowledge of the equipment and methods used in the production process, and related aspects of materials storage, handling, and distribution of aggregates
  • Experience as a heavy equipment operator including loaders, bull dozers, off road trucks and excavators

Preferred:
  • Willing to provide own tools typically used in Aggregate Operations
  • Experience welding and cutting

Conditions of Employment
Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing. For work that will be performed in the San Francisco area, qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered for employment.
