WHAT IS A UNIVERSAL BANKER?

Our Universal Bankers are relationship-focused financial professionals who combine exceptional customer service with banking expertise. As one of the primary points of contact for customers, Universal Bankers assist with everyday banking transactions while also helping customers identify products and services that support their financial goals. Universal Bankers build strong customer relationships by understanding customer needs, providing financial solutions, opening and servicing accounts, and connecting customers with specialists when appropriate. The individual hired for this role will work a varied schedule, including several Saturdays per month, and will work in our Freeport and Durand offices. Individuals who are enthusiastic, outgoing, customer-focused, and driven to learn and grow will thrive in this role.
HOW WILL A UNIVERSAL BANKER SPEND THEIR TIME?
  • Creating exceptional customer experiences by building relationships, identifying needs, and providing personalized banking solutions.
  • Assisting customers with a variety of banking transactions and service requests.
  • Opening, maintaining and servicing deposit accounts while ensuring compliance with bank policies and regulations.
  • Identifying opportunities to educate customers about products and services that may help them achieve their financial goals.
  • Building relationships through meaningful conversations and proactive customer outreach.
  • Protecting customers and the bank by following security procedures, recognizing potential fraud and scam activity, and educating customers on fraud prevention and safe banking practices.
  • Maintaining and balancing a cash drawer, including researching and resolving discrepancies when necessary.
  • Answering incoming calls and directing customers to the appropriate resources or departments.
  • Completing training and professional development opportunities to enhance your current skills and prepare for future growth opportunities.
  • Collaborating with team members across departments and locations to deliver exceptional service and achieve branch goals.

WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING WILL I RECEIVE?
During your training, you will receive one-on-one training in both a classroom setting and with real-world interactions with customers. You will be given a thorough review of banking fundamentals, get to know Solutions Bank as a company and learn Solutions Bank products, processes and procedures.
WHAT SOFT SKILLS DOES A UNIVERSAL BANKER NEED?
What are soft skills? Soft skills are personal attributes that directly relate to how well you can work with and interact with others. Soft skills are difficult to teach and are important to long-term success. They are also transferable across industries and careers. The soft skills that a successful Universal Banker may possess include communication, consistency, dependability, problem-solving, critical thinking, self-direction, adaptability, flexibility, conflict resolution, integrity, empathy, and cooperation.

WHAT HARD SKILLS MIGHT A UNIVERSAL BANKER HAVE?
Hard skills are the abilities you gain through education, training, and experience that often relate directly to a specific job or industry. Successful Universal Bankers must possess cash handling experience, customer service experience, basic accounting and financial knowledge, knowledge of banking regulation, experience opening and serving deposit accounts, knowledge of consumer banking products and services, digital banking and technology proficiency, experience with banking software systems and fraud prevention and risk awareness.
IS BANKING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED? WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE BANKING EXPERIENCE?
Candidates considered for this role must have prior banking experience including experience opening and servicing consumer deposit accounts and the thorough understanding of banking products.
WHAT ARE THE PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT OF THIS ROLE?

  • Office environment with a moderate level of noise.
  • Minimal lifting of up to 30 pounds.
  • Frequent use of telephone, copier, computer, fax machine, and other office equipment.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Frequent mental and visual concentration.
  • Occasional travel for training, meetings, and assisting other locations.

WHAT COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS ARE OFFERED AT SOLUTIONS BANK?
This is a full-time, non-exempt salaried position with a hiring pay range of $33,600 - $46,000, which reflects what we reasonably expect to pay candidates who meet the standard qualifications and experience level for this role. Our internal pay structure for this position extends beyond this range to support ongoing growth, skill development, and performance progression over time. Actual base pay will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Solutions Bank offers medical, dental, vision, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, long-term disability insurance, and a 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan with a non-discretionary company contribution.

Paid time off benefits include vacation time, sick leave, Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers leave, paid volunteer time, and holiday pay.
