Job description

Overview

Are you an experienced aviation maintenance technician with strong powerplant experience looking for a new challenge? Are you ready to take your industry experience and develop the next generation of aviation maintenance professionals?

Universal Technical Institute is seeking an Aviation Maintenance Instructor with a background in aircraft powerplant systems, including reciprocating and turbine engines. No prior teaching experience is required-we will train you to become an effective instructor.

Position Overview

As an Aviation Maintenance Instructor, you will deliver instruction focused on aircraft powerplant systems, beginning with reciprocating engine courses and progressing into turbine engine systems. You will guide students through both theory and hands-on application, ensuring they develop the knowledge and skills required for industry success.

Initial course assignments include:

  • Reciprocating Engine and Engine Instruments
  • Fuel Metering, Induction, and Exhaust Systems
  • Ignition Systems
  • Lubrication Systems and Propellers
  • Engine Inspection and Overhaul

Additional responsibilities will expand into turbine engine systems, including:

  • Turbine engine design and operation
  • Engine accessories and supporting systems
  • Inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting

Responsibilities
  • Inspire and Educate: Create an engaging and inclusive learning environment where students can flourish, fostering their passion for aviation maintenance while imparting your expert knowledge.
  • Hands-On Training: Lead by example and provide practical demonstrations, ensuring students gain real-world experience in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing aircraft systems.
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with our education team to enhance existing courses and develop new ones that align with industry trends and advancements.
  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor students on their individual projects, encouraging them to think critically and find innovative solutions.
  • Safety First: Instill the importance of safety procedures and best practices to ensure a secure working environment for students.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED/ 
  • Preferred bachelor's degree with appropriate coursework in aviation maintenance or a related field is a plus
  • Experience: 5 years of practical work experience in the field excludes teaching - reciprocating engines, and turbine is a plus
  • Certifications: FAA A&P (Airframe A and Powerplant P) ratings and license is highly valued, but if not current, we will pay for you to obtain
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to effectively connect with students and fellow staff
  • Patience and Empathy: A patient and empathetic approach to teaching, understanding that every student learns at their own pace
