About our Team

The Data Management Team owns the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of LNRS enterprise-wide storage and data protection capabilities. This encompasses mission-critical infrastructure spanning: On-premises and colocation storage arrays (Dell Unity, PowerStore, PowerScale, PowerVault platforms), Enterprise backup and recovery solutions (Commvault, Avamar, Data Domain) with immutable/WORM storage for ransomware resilience and compliance, Fiber Channel SAN fabric, zoning, cabling, and data center hardware infrastructure, Hybrid cloud storage and backup services (AWS and Azure) supporting migrations and modernization, Automation, scripting (Bash/Python/Terraform), monitoring, reporting, and operational excellence initiatives. This infrastructure directly enables data availability, regulatory compliance, business continuity, and ransomware protection for the entire organization.

About the Role

The Senior III, Systems Engineer position exists to provide direct input to project plans, schedules, and methodology in the operation and maintenance of multiple system environments, with a strong emphasis on enterprise data storage, backup and recovery solutions, and hybrid cloud infrastructure in support of the data management team. The candidate responds to system management alerts to handle system/operations exceptions within the assigned enterprise systems of product offerings. This position is also responsible for triage change management support and contributes to strategic planning and operational excellence for data protection and storage optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic input to project plans, schedules, and operational methodologies for the maintenance, optimization, and evolution of enterprise storage, backup/recovery, and hybrid cloud environments supporting the data management team.
  • Monitor system management alerts and respond promptly to handle storage, backup, infrastructure, and data protection exceptions, ensuring high availability, data integrity, and minimal business impact.
  • Diagnose complex system, storage performance, and data protection problems using logs, traces, performance metrics (I/O, latency, throughput), and advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Manage and administer enterprise storage arrays (Dell Unity, PowerStore, PowerScale, and equivalent platforms), including provisioning, volume/LUN management, replication, snapshots, tiering, and proactive capacity planning.
  • Manage and administer enterprise backup and recovery solutions (Dell Avamar, Commvault, and cloud-native services), including policy design, job scheduling, monitoring, success rate reporting, and regular restore testing/validation.
  • Manage and administer brocade fiber channel switches, including experience with data migrations and SANNav software. Switch CLI experience a plus.
  • Design, implement, and manage cloud storage and backup solutions on Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), optimizing for performance, security, compliance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize automation scripts, workflows, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions using Bash, Python, Terraform, and complementary tools to provision storage, automate backups, orchestrate data protection, and reduce manual effort.
  • Implement and manage immutable storage technologies, WORM (Write Once Read Many) configurations, and object-lock policies to protect critical data against ransomware, accidental deletion, and to meet regulatory retention requirements.
  • Perform fiber channel infrastructure administration including cabling standards and best practices, zoning, LUN masking, multipathing, and SAN fabric troubleshooting to maintain high-performance, resilient storage connectivity.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to the architectural design, solutioning, and long-term roadmap development for storage, data protection, backup, and hybrid cloud infrastructure aligned with business objectives and emerging technologies.
  • Provide strategic vision and actionable recommendations for the data management department, identifying opportunities for technology adoption, process automation, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage capital expenditures (CapEx) and operational expenditures (OpEx) for storage, backup, and related infrastructure projects, including budgeting, forecasting, vendor negotiations, TCO analysis, and ensuring fiscal accountability and ROI.
  • Create, maintain, and govern comprehensive technical documentation including architecture diagrams, configuration standards, SOPs, runbooks, disaster recovery plans, and knowledge base articles to ensure operational consistency and knowledge retention.
  • Mentor, coach, and train team members through structured knowledge transfer, documentation, hands-on labs, and workshops on storage administration, backup best practices, automation techniques, cloud technologies, and advanced troubleshooting to build team capability and bench strength.
  • Install, configure, patch, troubleshoot, and optimize system components, storage software, backup agents, cloud connectors, and related program products across heterogeneous Linux, UNIX, and Windows environments.
  • Develop, review, and optimize scripts, job controls, orchestration workflows, and automation for data movement, backup/recovery jobs, system maintenance, and operational tasks to maximize efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with application development, network, security, cloud, and vendor teams to coordinate changes, integrations, migrations, and issue resolution while consistently meeting deadlines, SLAs, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure rigorous adherence to change management, incident, problem, and request processes, including proper creation, impact assessment, documentation, approval, execution, testing, and closure of all changes and service requests.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of storage systems (block, file, object), backup technologies, cloud platforms, operating system internals (Linux/UNIX kernels, file systems), Windows infrastructure, virtualization, and performance optimization principles.
  • All other duties as assigned to support the mission and objectives of the data management team and enterprise infrastructure operations.

Requirements:
