Job Description Civil / Environmental Engineer (PE)

Location: Sarasota / Lakewood Ranch / Tampa, FL Employment Type: Full-time Experience Level: 8โ€“15 years preferred (6 years minimum required) Travel: Occasional, within SW to West Central Florida for site visits, pilot studies, and client meetings

About the Opportunity

The firm is led by a well-known industry leader and licensed Professional Engineer, with a strong reputation for innovative, responsive, and high-integrity engineering and business consulting services.

You'll work directly with the firm's President to support key technical initiatives and client growth, with senior professionals mentoring you toward roles such as Technical Lead, Project Manager, and/or Client Services Manager. The firm's work centers on "OneWater" engineering โ€” sustainable water, wastewater, and reclaimed water design, pilot studies, asset management, and smart-utility consulting.

Current project backlog includes:

Innovative "OneWater" designs, technologies, and pilot studies

Development of best practices and decision-support tools

Artificial intelligence and collaborative project delivery

Sustainable water/wastewater/reclaimed water designs and LIDs

Asset management, CMOM, and "smart utility" consulting

What You'll Do

Prepare or oversee engineering calculations, AutoCAD 3D designs, assessments, studies, master plans, models, construction drawings, specifications, permit applications, and reports

Serve as Project Manager or Technical Lead depending on project scale and complexity

Lead pilot studies, reports, GIS/CADD/modeling efforts, CEI services, and stakeholder outreach

Support business development, proposals, presentations, project schedules, budgets, and cost evaluations

Research innovative technologies, regulations, and methods

Coordinate with clients, sub-consultants, vendors, and the internal team

Travel occasionally within SW to West Central Florida for site visits, pilots, and client meetings

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering

At least 6 years of engineering experience

Florida PE license, or the ability to obtain one within 4 months

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint)

Strong communication skills and project management experience

Ability to oversee support staff, including engineers and CADD designers

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder

Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug test

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience.
  • Current Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the demonstrated ability to secure one within four months of hiring.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and strong capabilities in project management and professional communication.
  • Proven experience in overseeing support staff and managing complex project timelines.
  • Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record, along with the ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status (Green Card holder) is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Advanced skills in AutoCAD 3D, GIS, hydraulic modeling, and database management; a Master's degree in water/wastewater, water resources, or site development; and prior training in project management.
