Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the church's administrative operations and implement the ministry vision and strategy of the elders.

  • Manage the maintenance of and improvements to the church's buildings and property, and manage the church's finances in collaboration with the Treasurer.

  • Shepherd the English congregation through teaching, discipling, and counseling.

Job description

Introduction & Background

Chinese Grace Bible Church is a non-denominational church with three congregations which have separate worship services and ministries in their respective languages—English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. The church began as an outreach ministry to Chinese immigrants over 80 years ago and has been in its current location since 1973.

  • Doctrinal/Philosophical Distinctives: expository preaching, reformed soteriology, meaningful membership, biblical eldership, complementarianism
  • Pastoral Staff: 4 full-time pastors, 1 full-time youth and children’s minister
  • Office Staff: 1 full-time Director of Operations and 2 part-time Administrative Assistants

We are seeking a full-time Associate Pastor of Administration to pastorally oversee the church’s administrative operations and to spiritually shepherd the English members and ministries. Depending on experience and gifting, this position could become an Executive Pastor. Due to the complexity of our trilingual and tri-congregational church, this role is important for maintaining the unity of the church so that the word of God may continue to increase (Acts 6:7).

Responsibilities
  • Implement the ministry vision and strategy of the elders with pastoral wisdom and patience
  • Oversee the maintenance of and improvements to the church’s buildings and property
  • Manage the church’s finances in collaboration with the Treasurer
  • Improve or establish clear, efficient, and unifying processes, policies, and systems
  • Shepherd the English congregation through teaching, discipling, and counseling. If desired, we may consider designating a specific ministry focus within the English congregation, such as education, college/young adults, outreach, missions, marriage, family, etc.
  • This position directly reports to the senior pastor, closely collaborates with the congregational and other pastors, and manages the administrative staff
Current Status and Future Outlook

By God’s grace, our elders (4 staff, 6 non-staff) are doctrinally and philosophically unified, and we joyfully partner together to reach the Chinese immigrant community and our English‑speaking neighbors, including those who are not ethnically Chinese, with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We have been experiencing healthy growth which has been encouraging but also challenging because of a lack of space and a need for more spiritual leaders. We are intentionally training up and praying for more leaders to serve our growing church, and we are also praying for the Lord to provide a larger facility, ideally with 2 worship spaces, to better accommodate our 3 worship services on Sunday mornings. Relocating the church with unity and trust would be a potentially important area for the Administrative Pastor to provide practical leadership and shepherding.

Qualifications
  • Character: Must meet the biblical qualifications for an overseer/elder as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9, be affirmed as such by his church’s elders
  • Doctrine: Must agree with and teach according to the church’s Statement of Faith (see cgbcsac.org/what-we-believe) and other doctrinal/philosophical distinctives as mentioned above.
  • Training/Experience: Master of Divinity and 3+ years of full-time ministry preferred
  • Gifting/Strengths: In addition to being able to teach and eager to shepherd, the ideal candidate must:
    • Have strong administrative and organizational abilities
    • Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Be able to work well with others—whether overseeing, collaborating with, or supporting others, including those who have different cultural backgrounds
Compensation

Full-time salary with paid vacation and benefits (health insurance, retirement, etc.)

Application

If you are interested in applying, email pastorsearch@cgbcsac.org with your (1) resume, and (2) two sermons.
