What is unique photography?

Unique photography refers to a style or approach that stands out from conventional photography by emphasizing originality, creativity, and personal expression. Photographers who specialize in unique photography often experiment with unusual techniques, perspectives, and subject matter to produce images that are visually striking and memorable. This can include using unconventional lighting, post-processing effects, or capturing rare moments that tell a compelling story. The goal is to create photographs that are distinct and evoke emotion or curiosity in viewers.

How does a unique photography role typically collaborate with clients to ensure their creative vision is captured effectively?

In a Unique Photography role, close collaboration with clients is essential from the initial concept stage through to the final edit. Photographers often conduct consultations to understand each client's specific vision, preferences, and requirements for their session. They may provide creative direction, suggest locations or themes, and present sample work to align expectations. Throughout the shoot, frequent communication ensures that adjustments can be made in real-time, and post-shoot, photographers often involve clients in the selection and editing process to guarantee satisfaction with the final images.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a unique photographer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Unique Photographer, you need a solid understanding of photography principles, creativity, and technical proficiency with cameras and lighting equipment, often supported by a portfolio and relevant coursework. Mastery of photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, as well as familiarity with digital asset management systems, is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and an artistic eye help photographers connect with clients and capture distinctive images. These skills ensure the creation of compelling, original photographs that stand out in a competitive market.

Job description

School Photographer (No Boring Days, No Boring Schedule.)

Focused School Photography is on the lookout for enthusiastic, reliable photographers to join our team on a unique year-round schedule: 12 weeks on, 12 weeks off. Yep—you work hard for 12 weeks, then get 12 weeks to recharge, travel, or just sleep in. Repeat!

If you love working with kids, enjoy photography (even on your cell phone), and want a job that keeps you moving and meeting new people, this could be the perfect fit.

What You’ll Do:

  • Travel to schools in and around Oklahoma City to photograph students (Pre-K through 11th grade, plus high school seniors, sports teams, and graduations)
  • Capture great expressions and well-posed portraits—don’t worry, we’ll train you!
  • Create a smooth, fun experience for students and school staff

✅ What We’re Looking For:

  • Outgoing and friendly—you enjoy working with kids and school staff
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle fast-paced days
  • Comfortable with early mornings and travel
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs and be on your feet for several hours
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to pass a background check

Photography experience is a bonus, but not required—we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

What You’ll Get:

  • $16/hour starting pay, with bonus opportunities and raises each 12-week cycle
  • Mileage reimbursement for travel
  • Built-in time off—enjoy scheduled breaks between work assignments
  • Holiday season off (hello, December!)
  • On-the-job training and advancement opportunities
  • Recognition for a job well done by a fun, supportive team that values both people and professionalism

Why Focused School Photography?

Since 2016, we’ve been helping schools create lasting memories while building a culture that values teamwork, service, and positive energy. We take pride in what we do—and we have fun doing it.

If you’re ready for a job that’s meaningful, flexible, and full of variety—we’d love to meet you.
