We are seeking an experienced LBS1 Special Education Teacher to join an elementary self-contained program in Vernon Hills, Illinois for the 2026-2027 school year.
  • This role is ideal for educators who thrive in small classroom settings and are passionate about helping students build academic, functional, and life skills through individualized instruction and strong behavioral supports.

Position Overview

  • Position: Elementary Special Education Teacher (LBS1)
  • Location: Vernon Hills, IL 60061
  • Schedule: Full-Time, 35 Hours per Week
  • Contract Dates: August 17, 2026 โ€“ May 28, 2027
  • School Setting: Elementary Self-Contained Classroom

Daily Schedule

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:05 AM โ€“ 3:35 PM
  • Wednesday: 8:05 AM โ€“ 3:50 PM
  • 30-minute lunch provided daily

*Candidates who complete onboarding early may have the opportunity to attend new staff orientation prior to the school year.

What You'll Be Supporting

  • This elementary self-contained classroom serves approximately 7-8 students in 4th and 5th grade who require specialized academic and behavioral programming.
  • The classroom is located within a building that houses several self-contained elementary programs, providing access to a strong network of experienced special education professionals and ongoing collaboration opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized special education instruction aligned to IEP goals
  • Create, implement, and maintain compliant IEPs
  • Monitor student progress and collect data
  • Collaborate with related service providers, families, and educational teams
  • Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies based on student needs
  • Support academic, behavioral, communication, and functional skill development
  • Maintain a structured, positive, and engaging learning environment

*QualificationsRequired

  • Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Active Illinois Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) Endorsement
  • Ability to manage IEP responsibilities and special education compliance requirements
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills

  • Previous self-contained classroom experience
