The Job at a Glance

The Assistant Branch Manager (ABM) supports the Branch & Community Engagement Manager (BCM) with branch operations oversight, staff performance, and member service excellence. This role helps ensure the branch meets its financial, operational, and sales goals while maintaining compliance with policies and regulatory standards. Provides leadership, guidance, and support to team members, resolves member concerns, and ensures a smooth, efficient, and member-focused environment.  The Assistant Branch Manager promotes CU1’s core values of Be Great, Be Engaged, Be Open, Be Nice.

A Typical Day

  • Oversee daily branch operations, ensuring that cash handling, vault management, transaction processing, and branch security follow CU 1 policies and procedures, while adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively lead, coach, and develop branch staff (tellers, relationship bankers, etc.), including   scheduling, training, and supporting the Branch & Community Engagement Manager with the hiring process and performance reviews.
  • Handle escalated member concerns (complaints, account problems, etc.), ensuring excellent service delivery, and supporting staff with complex member inquiries.
  • Promote CU1 product adoption (loans, deposit accounts, services) by helping to identify sales opportunities; cross-selling and collaborating with branch staff to meet branch sales goals.
  • Manage branches’ financial performance; monitor budget, control expenses, and contribute to meeting growth metrics (loan growth, share growth, product penetration, etc.).
  • Prepare and analyze branch reports (sales, operations, performance metrics), conduct audits (e.g., cash drawer audits), and address any quality control issues.
  • Serve as the branch leader in the absence of the Branch & Community Engagement Manager — making decisions, managing staff, and ensuring business continuity.
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees as assigned. 
  • Lead the branch teams by ensuring a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work culture.

What We Look For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development or related field of study preferred.  Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and/or training.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience required, with a proven record of exceeding member expectations. Financial industry experience preferred.
