  • We provide 70,000 children each year with programs that provide meaningful interactions with the natural environment.

UNION SQUARE GREENMARKET OPERATIONS COORDINATOR (Full-time)
Position Summary
The Union Square Greenmarket Operations Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of Greenmarket's flagship market through a combination of regular weekly tasks, seasonal projects, on-demand logistical support, and regular work in the field. The ideal candidate possesses flexibility, initiative, responsiveness, organization, and excellent communication skills. This position reports to the Union Square Operations Manager and works closely with the Union Square General Manager.
Requirements
Union Square Greenmarket Operations Coordinator Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
Market Operations and Administration
  • Accurately mark farmer spaces according to the Union Square Chalk Guides
  • With assistance from the Union Square General Manager, troubleshoot logistics and operations during farmer load-in
  • Enforce Greenmarket rules and work closely with the Union Square Greenmarket Operations Manager and the Union Square Greenmarket General Manager to ensure that farmers are in compliance with city and state regulations
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of farmer vehicles
  • Oversee and track distribution of seasonal parking permits

Equipment and Supply Management
  • Track inventory and deliver supplies and equipment between the GrowNYC office and Union Square, or other locations as needed
  • Help maintain and coordinate repair of market equipment, including tents, barricades, and electronic devices
  • Help oversee the operation and maintenance of the Union Square Truck

Site Lead Training and Supervision Support
  • Assist the Union Square Greenmarket Operations Manager in training Seasonal Site Leads in all aspects of the Opening Operations shift
  • Identify and flag any prospective concern arising from staff performance to the USQ Operations Manager

Required Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Competency with Google Suite.
  • A go-getter attitude, and the desire to work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced team environment.
  • Willing to work every scheduled shift throughout the year, including weekends and holidays.
  • An early riser who enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong commitment to a racially and socially just food system.
  • A valid New York State driver's license for at least one year and a willingness to operate a box truck.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese language proficiency (highly preferred).
  • Knowledge of sustainable local agriculture/farming, food systems, food access, and/or food justice.

Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 72 lbs. and work outdoors (aiding techniques/tools will be provided for safe lifting upon request), walking, and standing for periods of up to 12 hours, sometimes in extreme temperatures. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Ability to work in a potentially noisy environment.

Schedule
The schedule is 35-40 hours per week, year-round on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at the market; and in-person work at GrowNYC's Manhattan office. This position requires availability for early mornings starting at 4:45 am and flexibility to work a variety of shifts.
Compensation
The position is a non-exempt, full-time salaried position. It pays $54,000 -$57,000 and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days and FSA programs). The position is union-eligible.
