Description
Under the supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Director, the Maintenance Technician ensures the safe and efficient operation of county buildings, facilities, and equipment through diverse maintenance tasks. Performs essential semi-skilled repairs, encompassing plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and plastering. Handles seasonal outdoor maintenance, including lawn care and snow removal, and assists with custodial duties. Inspects buildings and systems for issues, implements preventative maintenance plans, and schedules external repairs when necessary. The Maintenance Technician does not supervise others. ***This position is assigned to the St. Joseph County Jail, but may also occasionally work in other county locations.
• Conducts preventive maintenance, installation, testing, and minor repair tasks for electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and other structural and fixed building components.
• Coordinates supply logistics by delivering items to various county locations and handling the inventory and ordering of cleaning and personal hygiene products for the Jail.
• Performs routine vehicle maintenance.
• Provides essential custodial services, furniture moving, and addresses specialized issues like jail sewer problems.
• Performs groundskeeping tasks, including lawn care and snow removal.
Position Requirements
Education:
A high school diploma supplemented by vocational training in building trades.
Experience:
Seven years of experience in maintaining buildings, grounds and related equipment preferred.
Other Requirements:
Michigan Vehicle Operator's License.
Limited proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
