Job description

Overview

Please note: This is a unionized position. Applicants must be willing to join and adhere to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

The Service Truck Driver, as a Class A/B OR CDL truck driver, is responsible to deliver temporary or permanent construction materials to job sites, as instructed, always applying safe driving practices. He or she is also responsible to inspect and maintain the assigned Service Truck, hauling materials or small equipment to or from the Job sites, reports shortages, and assists in loading and storing of materials.


The Service Truck Driver operates on heavy construction projects within any combination of the duties described more fully below performing a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates


Responsibilities
  • Obtains clear assignments and instructions each morning or the evening prior by the supervisor
  • Drives safely to and from each job site as assigned
  • Organizes and secures load down to truck bed for delivery to and from job sites, providers, etc.
  • Loads and unloads cargo utilizing the truck mounted crane
  • Delivers materials to sites as needed and as instructed.
  • Follows all state and federal motor carrier rules and regulation established by the Department of Transportation.
  • Prepares DOT required log of time on duty and driving
  • Completes daily equipment pre-inspection
  • Operates, when required, under Lift Director supervision and works with crews on various types of activities associated with the heavy/civil, roadway and bridge construction industry that includes, but not limited to beam erection, demolition, concrete placement/construction, steel erection, pile driving and/or other construction lifting activities.
  • Must be able to maintain compliance responsibilities set forth in the OSHA standard Subpart CC, Cranes and Derricks in Construction (29 CFR 1926.1400–1442).
  • Must be able to follow instructions correctly, be able to communicate and respond accordingly to radio commands and/or with the ASME B30.5 Standard Hand Signals for Mobile Crane Operations regarding lift communications and/or lift instructions.
  • Inspect machines and equipment daily, perform routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs if required and requested by the fleet manager.
  • Perform general labor duties as needed.
  • Maintain visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations, and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly
  • Provide additional support to other crane operators as necessary, including working overtime to complete tasks, operating several types of equipment and training, or monitoring junior operators.
  • Must always maintain a current Load Chart and Operations Manual within the Service Truck cab and be able to demonstrate Load Chart proficiency and load chart usage, all in the language of the manufacturer’s instruction manual.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with the set up and operation of the crane’s computer in correct configuration and work within limitations.
  • Must be able to participate and perform lifting load planning; and execute the approved Lift Plan accordingly.
  • Must be able to inspect and be responsible for correct selection of rated rigging (slings, cables, straps, blocks, hooks, shackles, etc.) and the crane appurtenances prior to lifting operations with assurances that all lifts are within load limits of equipment and correctly rigged.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in handling, pre-start inspections, post-start inspections, maneuvering skills, shut down and securing procedures.
  • Must be able to work various shifts in a team environment. Team activities include responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day function of the team as well as with senior management who are involved running the project.
  • Must perform daily safety and operational Service Truck Must perform administrative paperwork including the preparation and submittal of daily service truck inspection reports as per internal protocols and industry requirements. Inspections will be performed per documented checklist, determine if any parts are malfunctioning, report any deficiencies, and perform minor repairs as needed.  Copies of inspections shall be kept in a binder in the Truck.
  • Must possess the ability to operate the Service Truck safely with a minimum of supervision while being able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of operation characteristics, controls, emergency skills, response to fire, power line contact, tipping, malfunction characteristics and performance questions about the specific truck in use.
  • The Service Truck Operator will be responsible for all safety aspects of operating the equipment.
  • The Service Truck Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
  • Must be willing to assist in other duties as required while not operating the Service Truck
  • Knowledge to inspect the Service Truck and recommend appropriate actions to maintain it in good working order.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA requirements in connection with crane operation including daily inspection log, focus on Service Truck operation, and being able to safely hoist, move and place materials and objects using appropriate attachments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and task oriented.

  • Must be knowledgeable in OSHA regulations regarding hoisting methods and practices, swing barricades and back up alarms.
  • Skilled with mobile phone + apps for truck maintenance and routing
  • High School Diploma or general education degree
  • Service Truck Certification
  • 2+ year CDL Experience operating Service Truck.
  • Valid NCCCO or NCCER certification.
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical including drug screen prior to employment
  • Obtain and maintain a commercial driver’s license and DOT card
