Position Description
SEEKING: Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Wildish Group of Companies

With the corporate office and main plant in Eugene, Oregon, as well as a satellite office in Fairview, Oregon, we serve our clients throughout Oregon.
REPORTS TO : 701 Shop Supervisor, Equipment Executive
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Diagnose and repair broken or malfunctioning mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of equipment. Maintain a variety of wheeled, tracked and/or stationary construction-related equipment.
Position Requirements
Skills / Responsibilities:
  • Perform skilled mechanical work, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety inspections on a variety of heavy equipment
  • Basic knowledge and skill of Arc/Mig welding and Oxy/Acetylene torch cutting
  • Perform work on and repair gas and diesel equipment and motors
  • Provide field service and answer service calls on heavy equipment
  • Clean, lubricate, and conduct routine maintenance on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
  • Document work completed and complete reports, as required
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • Able to take a firm command
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards

Qualifications:
  • 3 - 5 years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic preferred
  • Knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment
  • CDL Class A or CDL Class B
  • Understanding of hydraulic, electronics, and engine schematics
  • Willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required
  • Good communication skills; ability to give and receive clear directions and instructions (verbal and written)
  • Professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the public
  • Reliable, honest, trustworthy, hardworking
  • Current member of, or agree to join International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 701
  • Clean driving record (please see the "Attention Motor Vehicle Drivers" section below)
  • Must pass a criminal background check, and pre-employment CDL physical and drug testing

Physical / Mental Requirements:
  • Strength: Capable of routinely pushing and pulling hand-operated levers, depressing foot operated pedals and/or turning steering wheels for mechanical and hydraulic systems; routinely removing and installing components weighing up to 30 pounds; occasionally removing and installing components between 50 -70 pounds; occasionally swinging a 20-pound hammer or bar; driving a utility vehicle; wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Flexibility: Capable of walking on uneven, slick, loose and/or broken surfaces; climbing on and off equipment; squatting, kneeling, reaching, bending at the waist, and/or lying on back or side while making repairs.
  • Dexterity: Capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously (e.g., holding a component in place while turning a wrench, operating left- and right-hand controls and left and right foot pedals).
  • Respiratory Capacity: Capable of wearing a respiratory protection device while working in hazardous atmospheric conditions.
  • Endurance: Capable of performing assigned duties for eight or more hours at a time in hot, cold, daylight, nighttime, wet or dusty environments, and in noisy or jarring conditions.
  • Responsiveness: Capable of identifying through sight, sound, smell and/or touch, and reacting quickly to hazardous situations.
  • Communication: Capable of verbally asking questions, responding to questions, relaying information, and responding to and alerting others of hazardous situations.
  • Mental: Capable of understanding and following instructions; solve problems presented by unexpected equipment conditions; recognize and follow common safety practices.
