Job description

TITLE: Elevator Operator
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Dock Manager
STATUS: Hourly, Non-exempt.
Rate: $23.43 / hour to start
The Moscone Center has an immediate opening for an Elevator Operator under the B-18 Theatrical Employees Union to operate freight elevators on the loading docks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates elevator to transport materials equipment between floors on loading docks.
  • Moves control levers, or pushes buttons to control movement of elevator.
  • Opens & closes safety gate door of elevator at each floor where stop is made.
  • When transporting passengers, ensure that all passengers get in/out of the elevator with safety before proceeding to close the doors.
  • Inform users regarding load drop off locations and help them reach correct destination/floor.
  • Must report any elevator malfunction to supervisor.
  • Follows all safety procedures, guidelines, rules and regulations as provided.
  • Notifies security and supervisor immediately when unauthorized persons enter the elevator.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Must be courteous and friendly
  • Able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Able to complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Requires standing and sitting throughout the shift
  • Must be flexible to work any shifts, days and hours, including holidays and weekends
SCHEDULING EXPECTATIONS:
  • Elevator Operators are scheduled based on operational needs and seniority; hours are not consistent or guaranteed.
  • This would be a good position for someone who is in school or has another part-time job that has a consistent schedule.
  • Operationally, we have the greatest need for a candidate that has morning availability Monday - Friday, occasionally night shifts will be offered.
